Chapter 103
I quickly put the tools back in their places with clumsy fingers. I leave for the bathroom to wash my hands off until I look like a normal person again instead of an artist mid–meltdown.
I get back to the main pack house, and I’m lucky enough to catch Dad and Allison before they are escorted out. I run forward toward him and wrap my arms around his waist, burying my face in his chest.
“What about me?” Aunt Allison teases.
I let go of Dad and hug her too.
“Moons, I miss you guys so much.”
“Oh, come on.” Allison ruttles my hair. “We’re miles away. Where’s the little Pride?”
“Somewhere with Milo.” I say, looking back over my shoulder.
And then I see Derisha comes out of the room. She comes out with tears filled eyes, murmuring something like apologies. but I’m not sure because it’s kind of hysterical…the words are too fast. I see Regan come and stop outside the door. The Zetas kind of crowd that place a bit, forming a wall of blue uniforms. Teddy goes closer to find out what’s happening.
At this point, I look at Dad while closely watching the entrance of the investigation room at the same time.
“What… What happened in there?”
Allison looks back for a second and meets my eyes.
“Whatever happened got us our territory back. Emris has seen that all this while, his pack was the rot.”
“What?” I squint, then look at Dad for confirmation.
All of a sudden, a noise and short disorder happens in that area-
Then Emris storms out of the area with the Zetas and Deltas getting out of his way as quick as they can! His face is thunder. He doesn’t look at me. He doesn’t look at anyone. He just walks really fast like he’s trying to outrun something inside his own head.
“Dad, what… happened?” I ask again.
Allison looks at him. “Go ahead. Tell her in the quickest way you can. She’s a part of this family now. She’s got to know.”
“Let’s stroll out.” I say, gesturing for them to follow me so we can walk across the fountain area to talk.
For about thirty minutes, Dad describes the whole situation to me and I’m appalled.
All…all this time, Derisha knew this. If she knew this, then she should have been able to tell how Alpha Kael really died. And him–mistakenly ending his own brother. His own brother who was a LYCAN.
Also, Emris has a cousin who could come back for the Alpha seat at any moment. Which means Amira and I are in potential danger!
“Demetra?” Dad whispers when I go quiet.
I’m rather disappointed in myself. I was right all along to keep Amira away from this moon–forsaken pack. And now I hate myself more than I did before.
“I believe Emris will protect his children.” Dad says. “It’s not like you could have kept the secret forever that he is Amira’s

father. Amira’s life needed to be saved so don’t even for one moment blame yourself because you did everything. Everything you could”
I shake my head.
Dad doesn’t know I was busy.. secretly sleeping with Emris all this time. Every chance I got. Every time he called, I came. What kind of mother does that? I’m the one who made it impossible for him to let me go.
“I know you and Emris have been seeing each other.” Dad says quietly. “Secretly.
Allison looks at him in surprise and her eyebrows shoot up.
“I…” I try to explain, my mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. “I…”
“Don’t even. That Emris of a wolf is mad but he’s madly in love with you. And I think you love him just the same.”
I cannot believe I’m hearing this.
“I… I… I am not in love with him. It was the bond, OKAY?” I stutter all over my words, my face burning so hot I’m surprised I don’t burst into flames.
Allison starts laughing and I’m MORTIFIED.
“Of course. Ronin, she doesn’t love that proud wolf. Don’t ever say that.” She pinches Dad’s arm, and I’m even more embarrassed.
Dad laughs too with tiny wrinkles appearing at the corners of his eyes as he looks at me. I just put a hand over my brows, hiding my face like that will somehow undo the last five minutes.
“We should leave at once to make sure the elders know we’ve got our territory back.”
“Yes.” Allison kisses my cheek. “Be good.”
hen Dad hugs me, holding on a beat longer than usual.
“I’ll bring Amira over the weekend.” I tell them.
And shortly after, I watch their vehicle leave the pack house.
I turn around after and spot E…Elena!
Walking into the pack house. But I didn’t see her get in from the main entrance. So it’s like she was already here…inside the walls.
