Chapter 169
“Did you do something to her!? Did you do something to Wren?”
Cassie tilts her head.
“Wren is my kitten. And what that means is, for as long as she is in Wolf Arts, she is going to understand the consequences of spilling coffee on me in second year. She thought latching onto a newcomer would give her cover. I’m just reminding her that was a very poor decision. I’ve got some minions helping me make that point.”
“What does that mean? Where is she!?”
“What are you gonna do about it?” Cassie crosses her arms. “You don’t even know what you’re mixed with. Granted, you show up in designer clothes every single day but if you were truly from a wealthy family, you would have said that out loud. So you’re obviously not an important person which takes me back to my question. What can you do about it?”
I look around. Desperately. Searching for a professor, a staff member, anyone who can get this situation under control.
“Don’t bother.” Cassie reads the look immediately. “Professors and staff don’t get involved in what wolves do at Wolf Arts. That’s not a threat, that’s just the policy. Anyway, Wren is in the girls bathroom on the third floor.”
Lolly comes running toward while Cassie is speaking.
“Wren!” She says, and turns around to run ahead.
I go past Cassie as fast as I can. Running while I can still see Lolly, watching her brown hair bounce as she goes up the stairs as quickly as she can. The crowd gets worse as we climb. Students are standing in clusters and every person standing within twenty feet of the bathroom door has their phone up…in the door.
I push through!
I put my shoulder into the gap and force it and get inside and the first thing I smell is disgusting. The next thing is Wren is on/her knees.
There’s a mop stick balanced on her head and her hands are tied behind her back with what looks like a belt. Her glasses are on the floor, broken, one lens cracked, floating in a puddle of dirty toilet water-
Someone comes out of a stall with a bucket of water. I hear them say, “This one is fresh out of the toilet. And it’s brown.”
He douses it over her head. The water…. the filth…pours over her white shirt, her red hoodie, her hair. It drips down her face. and the one holding mop stick moves it all over her face…smearing the water, smearing whatever else is in it and grinding it into her skin while her glasses lie broken on the ground
I look around with tears are burning in my eyes.
They are all recording her. Every single one of them! There is no one here that thinks it makes sense to stop this. Cassie takes out her phone. With a smile, I hear her camera shutter click.
Like Wren isn’t a person.
Instantly, I feel my wolf…the evil twin from last night.
“Wren-”
I take a step closer but the boy who poured the filthy water on Wren stands in front of me.
In the same second, I feel something burn in my veins and it’s exactly that same feeling I felt last night. That white–hot, electric, wrong feeling. It’s currently happening to me again. I feel it in my hands…but this time around, I don’t see it happen visibly.
But the power is there, humming under my skin like a second heartbeat.

Chapter 169
Luna Demetri
That skirt is short.
Emris says across the parking lot, loud enough that a group of students turning in for their morning classes garice back at me. I freeze mid–step, already a few paces away from his car. He decided to drop me off at the Faculty building against my protests…I finally agreed and this is what he does!?
I look back at him through the half–tinted window. Wasn’t it just a second ago he promised to not wind down the car so could enter the building unnoticed?
“Demetra?” He says my name again.
I spin around and run back toward the car.
Drive off in the next one second, or I swear, I’ll cancel our date!”
The smirk on his face disappears and he quickly drives off the moment I say that. The moment his car pulls away, I step back onto the sidewalk and I see another car moving right past him.
The person driving meets my eyes instantly and its Lake.
I watch Emris’s car shrink into the distance, and I realize that it would have only been a few seconds…. seconds…for Emris to have seen that Lake is a professor here.
Lake and I hold eye contact for one long, horrible second before I feel my phone buzz.
Lolly. Right. She’s waiting for me so I rush into the Faculty building.
The moment I’m walking and turning into the next hallway, I see the Twin Alphas
Both of them are having a conversation with Cassie…heads bent together but the moment they see me, they stop talking. Their faces rearrange into big, fake smiles before they walk away in opposite directions.
Then Cassie walks toward me!
Pink heels, pink skirt, pink crop jacket over a white top. She looks like a stupid cupcake as she approaches. Before she reaches me, my phone buzzes again and it’s Lolly. Calling, this time around.
This time, I pick up.
“I’m in already. You’ll see me in two minutes-
“Wren! Wren is in trouble! Um, some idiot dudes in masks just grabbed her from the hallway.
“W–what?” I say, looking away from Cassie for a moment. Did I hear that
right?
Before I can hear the next thing Lolly wants to say to me,
someone takes the
phone
away
from
my ear.
Cassie. She holds it up and dangles it between her fingers
like it’s
toy.
“Hey!” I grab it back and my wolf snarls. I feel my fingers tighten around the phone.
“Oops.” Cassie examines her nails. “I was
just going to tell you where your friend is. No need to get aggressive about it.”
I stop trying to redial Lolly,

Chapter 169
“What?” The boy smirks. You wanna get doused along with her? Whoever tries to help her gets doused
Then he throws the bucket… aggressively, violently toward Wren’s already soaked body… and so fast, I feel my hand go on his
neck!
I pick him up with one hand.
No..it’s really my wolf that snatches him out of the air like a cat catching a mouse and smashes him against a bathroom door.
The wood splits. Cracks down the middle and breaks into two pieces that clatter to the tile floor. He’s hitting my hand furiously…. punching, scratching but I swear I don’t feel it.
We are the toilet cubicle where he took the dirty water from and I start pushing his head down into the toilet!
“Let go of me!” He’s screaming now. His legs kick against the stall walls. “What are you doing? Fucking let GO!”
I feel a vicious order in my bones.
My wolf makes me bend his head. Singlehandedly. With so much strength that he’s unable to put up a fight. His face is in the toilet bowl and I push it in deeper, replacing my hand with my foot on the back of his head.
I press flush and the water runs. Gurgles into his mouth as he chokes.
I keep my foot there until someone hits my back from where I’m standing.
“Get the fuck off my brother!”
I handle it with one kick. It carries something that doesn’t come from my legs, carries the wolf’s weight and the wolf’s decision and the wolf’s complete indifference to the outcome, and the due goes sideways…not back, sideways, a full lateral displacement into the second stall and the door doesn’t get up after.
I grab the first girl who is near Wren by her hair.
Her ponytail wraps around my fingers. I pull…hard and when I shove her toward the wall, her ponytail stays in my hand. I throw it and it ands in a puddle of toilet water.
Someone brings their hand toward my face.
Before it reaches me, claws come out of my hand and I slash him across the face.
I turn to see who’s next.
But they’re running. I grasp the dude running and I throw him at Cassie.
Cassie dodges with speed and they boy hits his face against the counter instead. Now I can feel my wolf telling me to go for Cassie next!
She’s standing near the door and slashes her claws out into a fighting stance.
We’re about to get into it when suddenly Honey appears in the middle of us and I feel my wolf retreat. Pull back. Slink into the shadows of my chest like a dog that’s been caught misbehaving.
And I’m left standing in the middle of the bathroom. Breathing hard and looking at what I’ve done. How…How on earth did I do all of this? I… I did all of this?
“Demetra. My office. Now!”
