Chapter 194
Alpha Emris.
“Barbarian wolves?”
I listen to Alpha Destan on the phone call, and Silver is right behind my chair. There’ve been rumors of the Barbarian Wolf Pack intercepting cities. They’re known as the pack with the highest population, but they aren’t in West Virginia. They’re in at least six states away from us at minimum. When you hear about them migrating it only ever means one thing…they’re heading somewhere specific and they’ve already decided on the destination.
“We have to send exclusive Zetas out to find out what’s happening.”
“Yeah.” I rub my temple. “Let them know.”
Regan was usually the best person for this sort of job. Silver keeps his ear to pack matters but this needs someone with Regan’s particular skill set and that option is currently fishing at a waterfall in Portugal like a coward he is.
“Emris, if-”
The door opens and I quickly decline the call as Demetra walks into my office. The last thing I want is her finding out that there’s a pack with the highest population of wolves that hate me…and they may be migrating from all those six states just to get to me.
“When were you gonna tell me about this?” She holds a file up.
I squint.
“Baby, what is that?”
“Crestville.” Silver whispers and quickly steps away from where he was standing before.
“Oh-”
“As in…” Demetra’s eyes narrow. “The same Crestville that Laura Hale is from?”
“Luna, we need doctors.”
“I think we had doctors.”
“You think I’m gonna tell a wolf who almost married you…who almost made my daughter his stepdaughter to work and have working access to my pack?” I uncross my legs and shove the notes Destan was telling me about under my drawer.
“You know you can be such a jerk sometimes.” Demetra puts her hand on my table. The sun streams through the window behind her, making her eyes pop at this radius.
“Silver, listen to this! Alpha Seth literally saved Amira from that infection. He is genuinely the best at what he does. But your brother cannot let go of the fact that I almost married Seth.” She looks between us. “Does that make any sense when I’m bonded to your brother right now?”
“Actually…I see Ernris’s point.”
“W–what?”
“Thank you.” I nod.

Fm his Beta. Silver shrugs. “I really cannot fathom getting a phone call every single day that Emris cannot keep his hands Loff Seth. I know my brother. Hatred is his virtue. So for the sake of my peace of mind, it’s best Alpha Seth stays away!
Demetra turns her face back is me, I give her a smile.
“Well, I’m Luna. And I didn’t agree to this!”
“Neither did I.” I stand up, rounding the desk. ” not like I knew Laura Hale before we chose Crestville. I just looked at their work. The success rate, the institutions their doctors trained at. They’re coming to teach in the college, the medical schools, the pack hospital. When the contract period ends, they leave. That’s the arrangement.”
“Yeah, like that will take a freaking two weeks, huh?”
“Luna” I raise my brows at her to tease. “It’s not like Laura Hale is gonna be here or something. She’s not a doctor.”
Demetra opens her mouth and I peck her lips to shush her. She slaps the paper against my chest.
“Oh.” Silver stares up from his phone. “Looks like the Crestville team is right on time. They just arrived.”
I think Silver and I did a good job keeping this from Demetra until the day they were arriving.
“Come on. Let’s go welcome them.” I hold her hand but Demetra doesn’t even move from where she’s standing..not until I tug her forward.
“I should at least change into something else.” She looks down at her rabbit ear slippers…the ones she and Amira have matching pairs of
“It won’t be long. We welcome them, the Deltas walk them to the lodge near the pack hospital, done.” I keep moving with her hand in mine.
We get to the main sitting area and Demetra pulls Summer aside and within minutes the butlers have refreshments arranged across the set ups. Finger sandwiches, chilled wine and little pastries. The front doors open wide and the Crestville doctors come in.
Both skilled female and male wolves in their uniforms. The documents said we should be receiving at least fifty skilled talents and they crowd into the pack house but it’s a fucking big sitting area so there’s room for all of them. The Deltas hold their positions around the perimeter and I stand at the front with Demetra’s hand still in mine and I take a look at what Crestville sent us.
I’ll give them this. They look like they know what they’re doing.
“Welcome to the Black Covenant Pack. This is Alpha Emris and his Luna, Luna Demetra Pride Convenant. We’ve been eager about your arrival.” Silver says and I take the first step forward to begin shaking hands with the people at the front.
“Nice to meet you.”
“It’s an honor, Alpha.”
It’s an honor, Alpha.”
“The honor is ours, Alpha.” I work through the front line and I’m genuinely relieved by the energy coming off them is eager with no visible fear. People are usually terrified when they meet me for the first time. The news articles. The rumors. The slits in my eyes that don’t exist anymore but somehow still haunt their memories
“We have refreshments for your travels.” I address the room. “Shortly my Deltas will escort you to your living quarters near the pack hospital. If you have any complaints there will be Deltas available to receive them. You’re free to move in and our of the territory and the pack house as long as you carry your identification at all times. I look across the group. “Who’s

epresenting the team?”
They look around at each other as if searching for someone who should be at the front and isn’t.
Then the front door opens again and Laura Hale walks in.
With Travis beside her.
I feel my wolf do something that can only be described as laughing at me cruelly. “You thought you were safe. “You thought she wasn’t coming. Fool!” I look at Silver immediately and he has his entire hand pressed over his mouth working very hard to contain himself from laughing. Then I look at Demetra.
Her eyes are pointed directly at me and they are saying something very specific about what I told her not twenty minutes ago in my office. “Laura Hale is not a doctor. She won’t be here.”
“Afternoon, Alpha Emris….we meet again.” Laura smiles as she walks through the parting crowd of doctors until she’s in front of me. I pause for a moment but I’m only truly genuinely at a loss for why this…of all the outcomes available to this situation.
“De..Demetra? Is…is that really you?”
That darn Were–druid is here too…asking bloody questions! It has been two weeks since Wolf Arts. Oh, it’s got to be the white hair.
“You will address her as Luna Demetra. Mom’s voice comes from somewhere behind the gathered group until she’s visible.
“You are speaking to the true Luna of the Black Covenant Pack.”
