Luna Demetra.

I’m holding Aunt Scotty in the dining area and she’s crying in a way that has no bottom to it. There is nothing I can say to her right now. She has seen the video of Teddy and Eden. We are not sure what’s wrong with Eden currently and the not knowing is its own particular torture.

Everyone in this house is broken open right now and Laura is in the other room calling her uncle, the one called Alpha Radius of the barbarian pack.

I don’t know anything that’s happening in there.

Emris, Slade, Aunt Allison and the others are all in that room but I won’t leave Aunt Scotty. About twenty minutes pass and they come back out. We all rise to our feet at the same time.

Craig and Timothy are the first to arrive at the door Emris just came from.

Emris is looking at me as he pulls his sleeves up and every wolf in the room is looking at me like whatever was decided in there has something to do with me, even though it literally shouldn’t!

“Say something, you guys.” Tiffany says under her breath.

“Demetra, can I speak to you?” Emris looks at me and I feel Aunt Scotty squirm in fear as soon as she hears that-

“It’s not Eden, Scotty.” He says it immediately and she exhales.

“What is it?”

“Let me explain-”

“No, Emris.” I stop in front of him. “You’ve already kept things from me. I don’t want an explanation, I want to know what’s happening so we can bring Teddy and Eden home.”

“Demetra, go with him.” Slade whispers it and I squint at him too because apparently neither of them can hear me!

“Radius wants to mate his daughter…who is my cousin, Ariadne… with Emris.” Laura says it plainly, clearly deciding that someone needs to just say it!

I know I heard her but what the hell did she just say!?

“According to what was translated in that old piece of file, the agreement was that the next heir of the Covenant Pack would take a Luna from the barbarian pack. And as Wren explained, the barbarian pack don’t care. They approve of multiple Lunas.”

“So-“I cut in so she gets to the point.

“I told my uncle I would do it instead.” Laura says it directly to me. “I changed his mind about Ariadne and I offered myself.”

The mate bond goes hot in my chest. It almost feels like my wolf wants to get feral at her that I press down hard.

“By agreeing to it, Radius is bringing Teddy and Eden home.” Emris says it flatly, like he’s delivering information rather than news, and everyone in the room exhales at once.

“Eden… is my son okay?”

“He’s fine.” Laura says. “He was knocked unconscious in that video deliberately. They did it to make it look like his life was at risk so you’d agree to anything. He wasn’t seriously hurt.”

“That’s not all.” Emris clears his throat. “Alpha Radius is coming to the pack house as we speak.”

“Then we should kill that man-”

“We can’t.” Aunt Allison speaks before anyone else can. “If we move against him now, we put our entire population at risk. The barbarian pack outnumbers the Black Covenant army three times over. Just like that document showed, they have more wolves than we can counter in twenty four hours. Laura is on our side which gives us an advantage, but we have to move carefully. We bring Teddy and Eden home first hear what Radius actually wants. Then we restructure.”

“Get the pack doctors ready.” I say.

“Crestville doctors will handle them.” Laura says immediately and we look at each other.

“And if there’s no way out of this?” Tiffany says what everyone is thinking out loud. “Does Emris actually have to bond with Laura just because these lunatics decided so!?”

I walk away from the room and hear Emris behind me immediately.

“Demi. Demi.” He calls my name twice and when I don’t stop walking, he grabs… setting his hand around me and making me stay in one position so that he can hug me. I can feel his heart going very fast on my back as his hand goes around my chest and holds me still.
