Chapter 215

Luna Demetra.

“Mommy-

“Amira, please stay here!” I yell back at her.

I’ve repeated myself to her once already, but she keeps trying to follow me. I hear the sound of voices running…right afte the sound of that growl that I know to my core belongs to Emris. I have seen him in his shifted form before, and I have heard what it sounds like when he’s in sync with his three bloodlines. But why does it sound that way? Why does it sound like there’s something entirely wrong? Broken and corrupted against his wolf?

Instantly, I remember that we have Radius on our tail and we’ve still not found out what Radius has that makes these Alph give up everything they have to the point of killing their own Betas, pups, and Lunas.

I shut the door on Amira and split my dress into two so I can run faster. The sequins tear. The fabric rips. I don’t care. Whe I get out of the kids‘ corridor, everyone is running helter–skelter, but no one can tell me what the issue is.

“DEMON!”

I hear a server say, running off and hiding behind a pillar.

Moment I get into the lawn, I start searching for anyone, or anything that can make sense of what’s going on right now. I stand in the middle of the lawn when I start hearing the sounds of the growling again. But where is it coming from? It’s like it’s coming from everywhere and anywhere.

My wolf strengthens me and I look up.

On the roof of the Lion Pride pack house, silhouetted against the moon, something that looks exactly like Emris is crouching at the edge of the lion statue. Same shoulders, same build but-

Red eyes.

Slitted and red, not the yellow they should be, not any color I have seen in him before. My wolf tells me immediately and insistently that this is my mate. I shake the thought off violently because there is no explanation for what I’m looking at. Ten minutes ago he was laughing until he couldn’t breathe. Ten minutes ago I watched him wipe tears from his eyes over Säver doing something ridiculous on the lawn.

Those are red, slitted eyes. Emris’s eyes when slitted are yellow. What’s–who is this!?

All of a sudden, Emris prowls like he’s ready to lunge. Then he somewhat recognizes that I’s staring back at him. The redness in his eyes gets flamey and I-

“Demetra!”

Silver appears at my side and pushes me out of the way. I fall onto the grass just in time to see Emris claw Silver till he’s blown off the field with a slash from his shoulder to his arm.

Emris looks back at me and his eyes go darker.

He doesn’t lunge at me. He goes for Silver again…furious, like Silver’s interference is the only thing his mind is locked onto and I watch my mate fight his own brother with the complete absence of recognition

Silver’s fangs are out but he’s beta. He will never attack his Alpha. He’s yelling Emiris’s name over and over with tears. streaming down his face.

I hear the sound of Milo’s voice. Milo crashes into me from behind and I grab him and go down to the grass with him. holding his face against my chest and feel my own tears coming while Emris’s growls surround us from every direction whole of the Lion Pride force arrives with voltage wands and start shocking it at Emris. The voltage of the shock sticks him, but it isn’t taking him down.

It seems to energize him as his fangs make him laugh manically.

I feel myself crying harder, still holding Milo on the grass.

All of a sudden, Emris is not longer there. It’s like he vanished into thin air. The vampyr side of him is so heightened that were all looking at him one moment and the next, he was nowhere to be found.

I weep. I weep until my voice is tearing itself apart on the lawn, yelling his name over and over again. Wondering if this dream and I’m going to get up from it very soon and realize that it’s just a fluke.

I yell his name until my throat is sore. Until the mate bond feels so shattered that I can’t breathe. It feels like I cannot feel our bond anymore like my wolf is detaching because she’s afraid. Like rejection that’s happening before I even say I reject you.

It feels like our bond is dead and lowly, it begins to feel like I’m dead too.

I faint onto the lawn with Milo in my arms.

One day later.

I wake up and instantly feel pain in

chest.

I’m on a bed. The ceiling is familiar for whatever time it is. My lips start shaking. I can feel the tears on my face before I’ve decided to cry. That answers the question of whether it was a dream. It wasn’t-

I remember everything that happened. I almost tried to lie to myself that I must have been knocked out after Slade’s engagement party because we danced too much.

But the pain in my chest that lets me know I’m lying to myself.

I feel little weights on the bed and they’re from Amira and Milo, both of them pressed against hugging me. Amira reaches up and wipes my cheek with her small hand.

“Don’t cry, Mommy. Daddy is gonna come back.”

I hear the door open and I open my eyes wider to see Dad

“Where’s he?” When I speak, my voice is very low, even though I try to sound louder.

Dad just shakes his head.
