How is it possible that I’ve been close to Demetra for these days and didn’t crave what I’m craving right now? Pure, undiluted, ravenous horniness to have her regardless of time and place.

The more I tasted her lips, the more I sucked her core, the more my pants tightened legitimately. Raw sex drive bangs up my spine, demanding that I claim her right here and right now. When I growled at Laura, it came from an urgent need to not be disturbed. I didn’t know an innocent pump demonstration would slam me with need from every direction.

I’ve got to be the most unfortunate father in the entire world. Where’s my selfcontrol?

This is not the time for me to be so impatient because she’s pregnant. I can’t mount her as I would.

But my emotions just chose this exact stage of our lives to fully return and that’s why my mouth wouldn’t let go of her. Like a dog with its bone. Like something that has been kept from what it recognizes for too long and cannot moderate itself once it’s close again.

Even now, watching her glare at me, I’m enthralled by her completely.

The horniness to knot in my mate is just buzzing like a beehive in front of me. My senses are heightened to the scent of her skin, to the sound of her moan, to her very presence. I’m enthralled completely. The more she backs away, the more I want to feel her under my skin. All my bloodlines are reaching out to her at oncewolf, vampyr, Lycanall of them screaming mine, mine, MINE!

Until I made that comment about Laura.

The back end is the only reason I’m keeping Laura close. I need the shapeshifter. I also need the entire log of the back watchers who forged the Sahara Den. It’s a whole illegal network of powerful Lunas and Alphas, funding ittreating captured wolves like commodities and orchestrating suffering on a scale that would make the darkest corners of history pale in comparison.

These funders of the Sahara den are wolves who hold positions of power across the globe, respected names in their territories, pillars of their communities and they gather in secret to watch wolves tear each other apart for….spartan sport!

They basically transport their enemies over to the Sahara for a life time of suffering by drugging them, with some form of liquid and banishing them into the Sahara where there’s no exit. The funders don’t just want their enemies deadthey want them broken, to suffer for years, to be stripped of everything that made them wolves.

I saw it with my own eyes. Wolves chained to walls, their claws filed down, their fangs pulled out, in cages and forced to fight like gladiators for entertainment.

And just because I destroyed and ended some of the VIPS doesn’t mean it’s over. Doesn’t mean that’s the end of it.

Wolves were kept in cages so small they couldn’t stand, starved beaten just enough to keep them afraid. They’d be dragged out for fights, forced to face wild animals….lions, bears, creatures that had been starved and

They’d bet on how long the wolves would last. My state may have been darkened, but I saw wolves get stomped while the crowd laughed, lighting tobaccos and sipping whiskey while blood sprayed across the sand.

Colorful numbers went up, flashing on the screens as bets were placed.

These wolves were to be stitched and fired quickly for the next animal fight. And when the wolves died? They were dragged off like carcasses, and new ones were brought in.

It was too much suffering that the wolves DNA got compromised until they became weakened versions of what they were built to be. Coyotes. Lowmenschens. Hybrids stripped of their dominant traits, spliced together in ways that nature never intended.

The VIPS in their private boxes, lips wet with anticipation. The way they’d lean forward when a wolf was about to die. The way they’d discuss their next purchase of a wolf they’d have kidnapped and shipped to the Den like a piece of cargo.

The network is vast. It stretches across continents, encompassing Alphas and Lunas who sit at the highest tables in the supernatural world. They fund it. They protect it. They ensure that the wheels keep turning, that the blood keeps flowing, that the bets keep being placed. And they do it all from the safety of their ivory towers, far removed from the suffering they cause.

I’m after the whole network. I’m after the Alphas in their private boxes. The Lunas and back watchers who keep whole operation running after every crack down. I’m going to tear it apart piece by piece, until there’s nothing left but ash and silence.

Laura has connections inside it. She knows names, location, secrets and that’s the only reason she’s still breathing near me. There’s no way I’m gonna know such a thing exists and not make it my mission to take it down.

You’re Alpha, and you can make whatever pack decision you want to make.Demetra’s voice cuts through my thoughts. Perfect. Just remember that I’m Luna. You can do whatever you want with the pack but not with

me.

She walks out of my face.

I almost miss the pump set. I put it back in its packaging before I follow her out and hand Abel my platinum card to cover everything we got and then pursue her through the baby section where my Deltas are doing an excellent job of intimidating every couple within a twentyfoot radius.

She shouldn’t even be running off like that in the first place.

Stop running.I growl.

And I hear it this time and I can tell where it’s coming from. The specific texture of it. Possessiveness. It’s all happening before my eyes. Last time I thought my emotions were a 20 percent comeback, I was wrong. It feels like a fifty now. Because my body is just thinking about Demetra and I’m going through a thousand things simultaneously just looking at her walk away from me.

Getting hurt by how upset she is. Feeling my chest fracture because she’s the shewolf I love.

And she’s upset with me.

My emotionsthey’re back.

Stop-I grab her arm.

Let go, Emris.

I see Laura behind us. And Jaguar, the third of the Four Fangs, walks toward me.

Round up everyone. We’re going back to the pack house.”

Yes, Alpha.

Delta?Demetra looks back at Laura once again. You are making the woman who took you to a fighting den in the Sahara a Delta? Do you know what a Delta even stands for? They take a vow to protect the pack. Why would Laura be a choice-

If I could tell Demetra right now, I would. A part of me wants to protect her from even knowing what I’m doing. She’s pregnantthe last thing a pregnant and hormonal Luna who just got her mate back at her side wants is for him to be going back into a network of allpowerful wolves running from one continent to another. It’s not a simple matter. At some point, I’m gonna have to take myself to the field. And it’s delicate to put on her heart rate on the run.

Demi-

Don’t call me that. She turns around and gets into the car and slams the door at my face.

When we get back to the pack house Silver is talking to a female Zeta in the specific way that means he’s not really talking about pack business. He’s flirting. Demetra storms past both of them into the house. I wait for the Deltas to disperse before I speak.

What?Silver walks toward me like he can tell I want to talk. Of course, he can tell. Our bond surpasses brotherhoodhis wolf reads mine the way a Beta’s should.

We need to talk-

Of course we do. You upset a pregnant Demetra. Oh wait, don’t even mention it. She must have found out that you made Laura a Delta!

My emotions are back, idiot.I grit out.

His eyes widen. Wwwhat!

Don’t announce it. I’ll tell Mom privately. But they’re back.

You still look like a cold monster. I don’t believe you.Silver shakes his head and puts space between us like I’m gonna claw his heart.

Technically Vampry is still sitting in my heart. But he’s there because he knows I’m touching dirty waters.

Dirty water?Silver stares into my eyes like he’s checking for slits or something. I don’t understand what you’re saying, Emris. Waitvampyr is sitting in your heart? That’s not good. He should be in the spine!

Well, they’re all sharing and negotiating it right now.”

What the fuck. If he’s therethere’s no way you’ve got your emotions back-

Rust won most of it back. But Vampyr is staying because of what I’m planning.I look at him directly. I’m going after the Sahara network, Silver. The whole thing. I’m going to pull it down entirely and I need Regan.

Silver’s face stops moving. It just takes a solid, frozen look that means he heard something he wasn’t prepared to hear and needs a moment before he responds to it.

Everyone knows not to mention Regan around me. Everyone in this pack. So if I’m asking for him back it’s because I’ve calculated that he’s the only one who can help me get startedbringing him back is his ticket out of that mountain in Portugal.

Before Silver can respond to the thing I just said, I see Demetra coming back out of the pack house in a sweatshirt and sweat pants, with a luggage being pulled forward by Monroe.

I immediately walk away from Silver to go face her.

Excuse me?

Yes, excuse yourself out of my way

You are pregnant.I plant myself in front of her. Where are you going?

I’m not even five months yet! You act protective, but you’re busy making Laura a Delta when you should be sending her off to her pack and wherever she spawned from. I don’t even mind prison….but of course, do you

If this is about the arguments we’re having, we can discuss it privately. Where are you going? What—I exhale, trying to keep my voice level. Demi, stop being irrational. It doesn’t make sense that we have an argument and you just leave. I’m your mate. I need to keep my eyes on you at all times.

This pregnancy is not my first rodeo, Emris, if that’s what you’re afraid of.

Okay!I raise my voice. Where are you going to?

There’s a wedding we have to prepare for.Demetra says flatly. Have you forgotten?

This idiot Monroe takes her luggage and fixes it in the car when I’m still talking!

Slade and Sabrina?

No, shapes and stuff.” She scoffs at me and walks away into the car.

I watch it leave the premises of the Black Covenant. Did she justleave?
