Alpha Emris.

The morning sunrise paints the lake in molten gold. Standing here on the deck, I realize there was a time I never thought I would experience my mate…tangled in my arms all night?

I wish she was awake to see how beautiful the sunrise is…but I’m too caught up to wake her, especially when she looks so beautiful sleeping. She looks like a goddess asleep, lips swollen from my marks, body spent. Beats me how I unleashed so much filth on such a beautiful female…it’s like everything I’ve been hungry and thirsty for…my wolf and I wanted to do everything.

I snag her hand, drawing her to the railing for the full view. She leans in and I circle behind, hugging her tight with my nose buried in her hair, hands on her hips, inhaling mine.

“Cause I was such a beast on you. Sorry.” Chin on her shoulder, I murmur; she chuckles low.

“You’re apologizing for the best sex I’ve had in…”

“Well, I did say I’d put a pup in you.” I kiss her cheek.

“Yeah, not funny.”

“Come here.” I spin her to face me, drinking her in.

“What?” She rolls her eyes because I’m putting her on the spot.

“If it’s the best, those other Alphas didn’t come close.” My ego purrs.

“No, Emris….they don’t. Happy now?”

I flash my killer smile. She turns back to the sunrise and I hug her again.

The difference between us and last night is that I’m now her boyfriend. While I’m touching her. I feel Demierra lay her head on my arm and hold my hand tighter.

“Thank you

for forgiving me,” I say to her while she snuggles against me, but I want to do more other than just saying thank you. Slowly. I let go of her and lower myself to the ground while she looks at me. Me kneeling for a woman would have been the hardest thing I would ever do, but today it is the easiest.

“Did I say I’ve forgiven you?” She peers down.

“Alright. I think this would be the best time then?”

I say, on my knees.

“Hmm…” she puts her hand on her chin like she’s thinking about it, then she places her hands on my shoulders. “Get up, Emris.

I smile, but rise wrapping my arms around her legs, hoisting her full against me. She yelps, hands flying around my neck as I hold her effortlessly with one arm.

“You’re gonna drop me!” she squeals, clinging tight while giggling like a pup.

“Hope you can swim-”

“Emris, no!” she pinches me, and I burst out laughing, the sound coming out easier than it has in years.

“I’m just kidding. Just kidding.” I set her down but keep her pinned close…now I’m peppering her face with kisses. “This one’s for all the mornings I lost…” Kiss. “This for the nights…” Kiss. “This for every time I kept you a secret…” Kiss. “This for the years I let you slip…” Kiss. “And this? For making you mine again.” Deep kiss, stealing her breath.

She’s caught somewhere between resisting me and letting it happen.

In the next two hours, we dress, linger over coffee on deck, then I open the car door like the gentleman–alpha I am, ushering her in to drive her home. Thirty minutes fly with the windows down, early light breezing in and us cackling at everything.

It starts small…little comments, teasing remarks but then she says something under her breath about how I still think I’m the most important person in every room, and I glance at her with a smirk.

“Think?” I repeat. “I don’t think. I know.”

“You’re actually impossible.”

“Impossible and still the best you’ve ever had.” I shoot.

“Remind me to punch you after you drop me off.” She crosses her legs in the reclined seat of my car, putting her hand out of the window to catch the breeze.

“You know, last night…way you sounded when I first slid in you? Demi, that was music.” I say, knowing it’s gonna makes her blush, scream and probably kill me.”

She swats my arm. “Emris, please…shut up!”

‘Ooooh Emris, Em…Em…” I chuckle in her face. “You were begging like that, all high and needy-

“Shut up! I did not sound like that!”

“Oh but you did. Every thrust had you singing my praises, she–wolf all desperate for her king. Admit it, you love how I make you break.”

“And how about you huh?” Demetra faces me, “Growling and shaking with every thrust, big bad Alpha losing it like a feral animal rutting his mate.”

I bark a laugh, ego stung but loving her sass.

“Caught you shaking like a leaf even in your Alpha beast mode”

Our chuckle fades as we near the secret back entrance where I picked her up. Shit. There is a hulking figure looming at the gate…Slade, if I’m not mistaken and that glare on his face? It matches the one from years ago when I claimed his mate to punish him.

Shit. He’s gonna know I’m back with Demetra now.

Everything I did back then. The things I don’t even try to justify anymore. What I did to his mate when I was running rogue after my father’s death… among everything else…poaching territory, sabotage and bedding his sister?

He’s not gonna hold back today.

Slade will tell her everything and tear apart whatever image she has left of me.

And if that happens…I could lose her all over again.

“Oh no.” Demetra’s face drains of color as I kill the engine.
