“Um. sorry for the familiarity.” She drops the smile like a bad habit.

Then she claps her hands. “Chop chop! Have you shown her dress? Have you taken her into the closet? Have you-”

“Just take me to the bathroom. I need to get out of this dress.”

“Chop CHOP!” she yells again, so loud that I actually flinch and look back at her. Why is she yelling? There’s no one else here.

“Here Luna.” The Zelta who was already helping me gestures toward.

“What’s your name?”

“That’s Zelta 12., Arieth interrupts. “Elena never wanted to call them by their names-”

“I am not Elena.” I turn to look Arieth dead in the eye. “And I am not speaking to you.”

“Like I said.” I look back at the girl. “What is your name?”

“My name is Becky.”

“Becky, please… show me the bathroom.”

“Right this way.”

As I start to move, the rest of the Zeltas…..a whole line of them follow like ducks.

“I don’t need all of you.” I frown.

Why would I need an entourage just to take a shower?

“But you need someone to massage your shoulders while you bathe,” Arieth calls out, “clean your feet-

I just glare at her.

I think she’s still used to Elena’s nonsense. Oh, moons. This is all because I got Elena divorced from Emris, isn’t it of course. That’s why I’m being punished.

“You brought her here? Mom asks but I’m looking at Teddy instead who just walked into the scene.

The housekeepers are filling the place with peonies flowers for the bonding ceremony. The elders are already presenta i they’re all whispering na their designated spaces about ray decision that came out of nowhere. Yeah. Fin reinstating a dew Luna, so those talks are needed. Plus, she’s my true male.

It will be over their tongues and into the public before the night is done anyway.

The way Silver has been walking back and forth with a phone call in his ear and security keeps running in to report things tells me there’s a horde of news reporters at the gate. But I don’t want this to hit the public, so no.

“Emris-”

“Yes, sweet mother.”

“Are you sure that the girl is my granddaughter?”

“Yes. I just spent the past hours transfusing my own blood into her… this is not something they told me, it’s something I witnessed myself.” I clench my jaw at the memory of the tubes, the way my blood left my body and became hers. I watched it happen

“Sir.” Arieth comes out.

“How is Amira’s room coming up?”

“It’s been fixed already. Your daughter is gonna love it.”

“Good.” I put my hand on my lips, pressing hard enough to feel my own teeth beneath the skin.

“I have a granddaughter.” Mom murmurs again, and I look at the elders behind her. She hasn’t believed it since she heard. When it came through the intercom, she said it’s a mistake, that I would never say that. And now that she’s hearing it from my mouth, she’s still asking if I’m sure.

Yeah, like I didn’t sow my wild oats in Demetra.

“Mom, please make yourself useful and find out what the elders are saying. When I come back downstairs, I’m coming with Demetra and I want the ceremony to start at once.”

I walk towards Teddy. She looks like she’s investigating. I hope she’s not taking information to give it back to that boyfriend of hers.

“I hope you’re not doing what I’m thinking.” I whisper.

“You know I’ve always known I had an ass for a brother, but I didn’t think he was this much ass. Her kid is in the hospital and you-”

“Our kid.”” I correct.

“Regardless, you just found out that Amira’s yours like five hours ago..”

“NO. I found out my blood was flowing through that little girl’s veins in a time where I could lose her… and before at me like I’m some monk who’s supposed to have morality, I didn’t force Demetra… she said yes.”

Silver ends his phone call and steps over, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck.

“Someone called Tiffany,” he says. “Said Ronin and Slade have figured out you took her.”

“They won’t know my plans-”

“Dummy, someone just released an article five minutes ago. Rumors about you getting your true mate installed as the new Luna. Teddy shoves her phone in my face. The headline screams up at me in bold letters. ALPHA EMRIS TO CROWN MYSTERY LUNA? INSIDE SOURCES SAY TRUE MATE FOUND.

“Then I better get dressed quickly.” I glare at both of them, then turn and leave to do so.

Let’s see. I never used the Alpha Groove for the past five years as my personal bedroom because that would mean I have to stay in the same space as Elena because the wings are interlinked. So I usually used my old room even though I’d become Alpha. But right now…

“Austin?” I call, and he moves from his stationed position just as I button the elevator.

“Get the Alpha Groove ready. That’s where I’m staying henceforth.”

“Uh… Yes, Alpha.” He blinks twice, then pulls out his phone to make it happen.

I go into my room and put on a snug black tee, my hair falls wildly over my shoulders. I don’t want to tame it.

My hair is one of the first thing people notice when I walk in…thick, black, and wild enough to look untamed even when I’ve tried to pull it into something respectable. The strands never fully obey me. They fall where they want, loose and heavy around my forehead and temples, allowing that predatory edge I’ve never bothered to hide. It makes me look more animal than man when I’m angry, which is convenient, because fear works faster when people think they’re standing in front of something half–feral.

Then there’s the rest of me.

I’m built large…not just tall, but the kind of massive that changes the shape of a room when I enter it. Broad shoulders, thick chest, long legs, and the kind of dense strength that comes from a body made to dominate.

I fix a pair of black tailored pants. It sits well and follows the length of my legs without looking ornamental.

There is no absolute time to be looking into suits when I want her bonded to me in the next second. Or when after this, I’m going back to the hospital to check on Amira. But then I’ll be doing it with the difference that I’m married to her mother.
