Finally.

I’m taking a shower.
These are my shampoo products from my former room even though the Luna chambers was stack with many. Dad was quick to send Amira’s things and mine, so I feel less of a stranger in this place.
Another thing is…I’m finally able to shut my eyes. It wasn’t so easy to do so before, but now I can hear the kids playing in the bedroom. Knowing Amira is being welcomed here, at least from everything I’ve seen, takes a tiny bit of the edge off. It doesn’t feel like a prison anymore.
Plus, I have some privacy.
I spoke to Silver earlier and asked him about what my Luna responsibilities would actually contain. I still have a job as an artist, and I don’t want this to come between me and my actual dream. It’s not like I asked to be anyone’s Luna so I refuse to let this whole mess swallow it up just because some ancient pack politics decided to make me important.
So no, I am absolutely not planning to give up my income to sit around looking decorative cause Emris has decided my life belongs to his world now.
Silver let me know that rightfully, from tomorrow morning, he would get a Delta who would brief me properly tomorrow morning and explain the responsibilities, the rules, the meetings and whatever else
comes.
I also wanted to know if there would be any balls or parties or galas because I know the pack is big on that. He assured me that Derisha would definitely throw a gala since a new Luna has been reinstated. I knew that already, but I wanted to repeat it mentally. Prepare myself.
The warm water from the shower rushes over the shampoo in my hair, and I stare, stunned for a moment as I can see the landscape of the Black Covenant Pack through the window. The rockways. The trees. How vast the land and territory is, sitting on the earth like a sleeping giant. It’s beautiful. The trees are all palm trees in one area, and shortly after that, the woods are hidden behind them…thicker there, darker.
When I was younger, I learned to never reach those parts.
The sun is beautiful. The sky is really blue. I think because of my memories in this pack house, I seem to have forgotten how beautiful it truly was. How the light falls over the training grounds. How the wind carries the scent of pine and something wild.
The warm shower washes over the mark on my neck and tingles-
The sensation is small at first, but it spreads fast….and rolls off to tighten my nipples. A tiny sound escapes me before-
I freeze.

Oh no.
No, no, no.

Something about the counter there, and the tub back in the other rare that’s big enough for three. I close my eyes, and all I feel is Emris around me. My imagination makes it even worse by conjuring an image of him straddling me, with my ass bouncing on his length under the hot shower.
Shit.
I need to get a hold of myself.
I have to remember that this is a forced marriage. Despite being bonded, despite the mark on my neck that burns when I think too hard about him…this isn’t real. That’s not how a real wolf is supposed to bond his mate. He literally used my daughter has a bargaining chip and expected me to fold.
And I did fold.
I cannot, for my life, be getting horny for a bastard like him. So get a hang, Demetra. Please, get a hang. You did this for a good four or five years. I know you can do it again. You survived without him. You raised his daughter without him. You built a life, a career, a whole human being from scratch while he was out there playing Alpha with Elena on his arm.
I turn off the shower.
Water drips from my chin, my elbows, my fingertips. I start squeezing the water out of my hair as it spatters all over my skin in wet strands. Little rivers running down my stomach, my thighs, my collarbone. I step out of the shower to the other area where there’s just a giant bathtub because that’s where I kept the bathrobe hanging.
I can hear the kids giggling louder like they’re right outside the door.
I bend down to shake the water out of my hair when the door opens-
And shuts abruptly!
“Amira-”
I start to say her name, but instead, I see Emris standing in front of me.
“AH!” The shout bursts out of me before, loud enough that someone probably heard me three floors down.
And he just stands there. LOOKING AT ME. Not even having the decency to look somewhere else…or the instinct to look away. His eyes are fixed on my body that’s still partly red from how hot the shower was, glowing like a damn beacon.
“TURN AROUND!!!” I scream at him.
But Emris… Moons forsaken Emris has his eyes on my breasts with feral hunger. The kind that makes my stomach drop and my knees weak and my brain short–circuit all at once. I grab the nearest thing….a box of shampoo and throw it at his chest to snap him out of it.

“I said TURN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN HERE!?”

He turns. Slowly. Like he’s doing me a favor. His back is muscular and it’s kind that makes you want to dig your nails into it. I hate that I notice that right now.
“The kids… pushed me in and shut the door.” Emris growls and I stare at his back like he just told me the sky is
green.
Does he think I was born yesterday? Does he think I’m stupid enough to believe that Milo and Amira…two five years olds joined forces, pushed a full–grown Alpha male into a bathroom, and shut the door behind him? Like some kind of toddler conspiracy?
I know what this is.
I told him there would be no sex between us. He heard I was in the shower, and he took the opportunity to present himself here so the bond would answer. Classic of a mate. Classic of a damn Alpha like him.
I can’t even argue as much as I want because my robe is right next to him. Of course it is! Of course the universe has a sick sense of humor!
“Pass me my robe, Emris.”
“Where-”
“Right next to you!”
“Stop fucking yelling at me. Are you insane?”
“No, are you!?” I fire back.
I watch him notice where my towel is. Instead of taking it and giving it to me like a normal person would, he just holds it in his hands. Stares at it and doesn’t give it!
“Say fucking please-”
“Fucking please.” I spit it out like poison.
I see his body move because he’s chuckling like this is funny to him. Watching me stand here naked under nothing but water droplets is some kind of entertainment. Then he stretches his arm out to give it to me.
I snatch it and quickly wrap it around myself. The moment I do, I push past him and try to unlock the door.
It’s locked. Moons, it’s really locked from the outside.
I try again and again.
“Told you they locked us in-”
“How are two kids pushing you into the bathroom and locking you in?” I twist around to glare at him. “What hell are you in my bedroom, anyway?”

“Oh, now it’s your bedroom. It’s a good thing you are accepting your fortune, little wife.” He smirks.
“Oh, honey, do you mean misfortune?”
I see it land. Emris does not like being insulted, especially when the insult is accurate, and especially when it comes from me.
So, he’s not smiling anymore.
“Misfortune? Hard to believe I’m such a misfortune when I’m the only one you want there. Between your legs. Five years… and you let no one else BUT me.”
I can see the ego in his eyes and the way his wolf is practically preening.
“Mmm… must really like my jewel, don’t you? You like a good, thick, fat, solid—”
“Don’t fool yourself.” My face burns. “I’ve made it clear that I don’t want you. So stop entering bathrooms without warning and blaming it on the kids. Have some control over yourself, will you? Alpha Seth wasn’t like this.”
I say it facing the door again, twisting the knob while I can literally hear the kids playing outside. Their little feet pattering. Amira’s high–pitched giggle. Milo shouting something about a dragon.
Emris’s silence tells me his face has changed into something serious.
“I’m warning you, Demetra.” His growl comes from right behind me now and it’s different unlike any other i’ve heard. It emanates from him to the base of my skull.
“Don’t mention that bastard’s name in my pack house.”
That’s a possessive growl. Why is he growling possessive if he hates me…currently.
“I repeat. We are married only for our kids. If you see me on a date with a young man, you better take it with a cup of water. This marriage is just one of convenience, alright?”
I add flames to the fire because that’s what he gets for sending that nonsense to Slade!
I can feel heat emanating from Emris. Between us, the space is tighter and hotter.
And then the door opens.
The kids jump together and scream, “SURPRISE!” Giggling.
I turn toward them and try to smile even though Emris is standing rigid beside me.
“Mommy, Tada!”
Emris looks at Amira and forces a smile on his face too.
“Wow. Such a surprise.”

Then he steps closer and kisses my forehead to whisper.
“Played nicely, Demetra. But if I were you, I’d have been on my best behaviour. The interview with your father is happening tomorrow. Be ready, I’ll have you on your knees again when you have to beg for your dad’s life. Hear me?”
