She smiled up at Gilbert. "Isn't that right, babe?"
"..."
A sharp pang hit Gilbert's chest. He frowned, his gaze landing on Sherilyn. His lips parted as if to speak, but he forced them shut.
Hmph.
Callie smirked. He wasn't saying anything, but she didn't care.
At least he wasn't kicking her away this time.
She turned her attention back to Sherilyn. "By the way, Gilbert and I are officially together!"
"..." Sherilyn blinked, genuinely surprised.
Were they?
That... happened fast.
Just a couple of days ago, Gilbert had been a crying, drunken mess on her doorstep, begging her to take him back...
"Haha! Shocked, aren't you?"
Callie caught her reaction perfectly and raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry, I'm pretty shocked myself! I never imagined I'd actually end up with the man I love!"
She lifted her chin arrogantly.
"Honestly, I should be thanking you. Thank you for dumping him! I really mean it!"
"..." Sherilyn's lips parted slightly, unsure of what to even say to that.
"Well?" Callie pressed, refusing to drop it. "Since we bumped into each other, aren't you going to congratulate me?"
"..." Sherilyn pressed her lips together. "Right. Congrat—"
"Enough!" Gilbert, who had been silent all this time, finally snapped, cutting Sherilyn off.
His eyes hadn't left Sherilyn for a second.
He saw everything clearly.
At first, he had been terrified and anxious about her reaction.
But the truth was staring him right in the face.
Even with him standing there with Callie, Sherilyn was only mildly surprised. There was no anger, no jealousy, absolutely nothing...
She genuinely didn't care about him anymore. But even so, he refused to stand there and listen to her say 'congratulations'!
Gilbert shot a vicious glare at Callie, shifting all his anger onto her.
His tone was venomous. "Are you done yet? Are we going or not?"
Yanking his arm free, he stormed past her without looking back. "If you're staying, then I'm leaving!"
