Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1309

Huh?

Being suddenly singled out, Sherilyn was momentarily confused and turned to look at Nanson.

Who was this woman?

The usually calm and collected Nanson looked absolutely furious, a dark storm brewing behind his eyes.

But he clearly forced himself to suppress it. Without even glancing at the woman, he offered Sherilyn a strained, unnatural smile.

"Let's get out of here."

With just those five words, he completely iced the woman out.

He acted as if she didn't exist, as if he hadn't heard a single word she just said.

"..." Sherilyn blinked in surprise. "Oh, alright."

"Nanson Cooper!"

Behind them, the woman gasped in shock before letting out a bitter, mocking laugh.

"Ha! This is rich... Is this really necessary? I just asked a simple question! If she's that precious to you, why don't you just lock her up? Why bring her out in public at all?"

No matter what insults she hurled, Nanson never once turned around.

Sherilyn stole a glance at him, noticing his expression growing increasingly rigid.

She couldn't help but say, "Nanson, if you need to... deal with something, I can go."

Her intuition told her that his relationship with that woman was anything but simple.

"No need."

Nanson shook his head.

By now, they had walked out the front doors of the restaurant, and the woman's voice had finally faded away.

"I'm really sorry about that."

Nanson offered an apologetic, self-deprecating smile. "I'm sorry you had to witness that, and I apologize for how she spoke to you."

He took a breath before explaining, "She's my ex-wife."

His ex-wife? Sherilyn instantly understood.

No wonder she had felt the heavy tension between them.

But hadn't Joyce mentioned that his ex-wife took their daughter and moved abroad right after the divorce?

"It's the summer holidays."

Anticipating her unspoken question, Nanson continued, "She brought Vivian... my daughter, back to Sunhaven to visit her parents."

"I see," Sherilyn simply nodded.

This was his private family matter, and it wasn't her place to comment. Listening was enough.

"I really am sorry."

After a brief pause, Nanson apologized again. "Ever since we started the divorce proceedings, she's treated me like this... Every conversation has to be a fight."

Yet, she was the one who had cheated and ruined the marriage.
