Callum froze, staring at me like I’d just spoken a foreign language.
“What did you just say?”
I repeated myself. Slowly, Clearly,
His face darkened.
“Sloane, stop messing around. It’s just a pendant. I’ll replace it. You’re seriously threatening me with divorce over
this?”
He still thought I was bluffing.
Ivy whimpered pitifully,
“Mentor… my head really hurts. Can you take me to the hospital? I feel like I’m gonna pass out.”
But Callum wasn’t listening. His focus was entirely on me and the word divorce. He shoved her aside, irritated.
“Wait. I need to talk to Sloane first.”

I cut him off, voice flat.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“Sloane, you-”
Before he could finish, Ivy collapsed into his arms.
I gave him a cold smile.
“Better get her to the hospital. Wouldn’t want her brain to get damaged.”
Callum looked furious–and helpless. He had no choice but to carry her out.
I didn’t wait around. I left the divorce papers on the table and walked out.
By the time I met my best friend at the airport, Callum was already blowing up my phone.
[I know I’ve hurt you. But we’ve been together for so many years. We built this marriage together. You can’t just throw it away.]
[I’m not signing. Give up.]

I didn’t care if he signed or not. I was never coming back
I deleted his contact and boarded the plane.
Five hours later, we landed in London.
My friend’s contact picked us up and took us to this gorgeous upscale restaurant.
“Look at you–you’ve lost so much weight in just a few days. That bastard did this to you.”
She poured me a glass of red wine, fuming.
“You keep stopping me from going after them. Are you seriously just gonna let them get away with this? Doesn’t it piss you off?”
I stared down at the glass, voice calm.
“Of course not. I already sent proof of their affair to every doctor at the hospital.”
Not just the cheating. I sent evidence of Callum locking me up to cover for Ivy too.
Even if it didn’t destroy his career, Ivy’s was done.
My friend’s face lit up. She gave me a thumbs–up.
“I knew you wouldn’t let yourself get screwed over. I can’t wait to see them get what’s coming.”
That night, we drank until we couldn’t stand. Talked until our voices were hoarse. It felt good.
We stumbled home completely wasted.
Back at the hospital.
Callum kept checking his phone. When I didn’t reply, his frown deepened. Unease gnawed at him.
Ivy, lying in the hospital bed, noticed he wasn’t paying attention to her. Annoyed, she put on her softest voice.
“Mentor… your wife hit me so hard. Even with the meds, my head still hurts. Can you stay with me tonight?”
Usually, a little acting like this would make him cave.
Not this time. He sounded cold. Annoyed.
“If something’s wrong, call a nurse. I have more important things to deal with. I’ll check on you later.”

He left without another word.
Ivy was livid. She punched the bed in frustration.
