Callum drove home in a daze. The second he opened the dog, he called on for me,

“Sloane–where are you? We need to talk.”

Silence.

His eyes landed on the divorce papers sitting on the table. He remembered the cold, distant look on my face when I’d said I wanted out.

He ripped the papers to shreds.

Then he called me.

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently on another call…”

He tried ten times. Same message every time.

He’d been blocked.

Frustrated, he ran a hand through his hair and called my best friend instead.

She picked up immediately–and tore into him.

“Callum? You’ve got some nerve calling me. You’re a piece of shit! Sloane’s the best thing that ever happened to you, and you threw her away for a bitch!”

“I hope you get hit by a car. I hope you choke on your food-”

Callum cut her off, unbothered.

“Where’s Sloane? Put her on. I need to talk to her.”

“She’s not talking to you. Not now. Not ever.”
