Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 102

Logan unzipped the flap and ducked inside.

He set his toiletries down in the outer "living area" before unzipping the inner compartment.

A single camping lantern hung inside the tent, casting an intimate, amber glow.

Instead of crawling all the way in, Logan crouched at the entrance, his eyes locked on Sloane.

Sloane's heart did a nervous flutter.

What was he playing at?

A rush of heat crept up the back of her neck.

Almost involuntarily, she pulled the blanket tighter around her chest.

Logan chuckled.

"What's so funny?" Sloane couldn't help but ask.

Logan tilted his head. "May I come in?"

"..." Sloane snapped in annoyance, "You can sleep out in the wilderness for all I care."

"I think I'll come in."

Logan finally crawled inside and settled down right next to her.

The tent instantly felt suffocatingly small.

Before, it had just been her own scent, but now, his sheer presence dominated at least two-thirds of the space.

It was getting hot.

While the tent looked decently sized from the outside, it was a pyramid shape—wide at the base and narrow at the top. If they didn't sit close to each other, their heads would brush against the slanted fabric.

Logan leaned a little closer to her.

Sloane's tension spiked, her fingers unconsciously gripping the blanket with white-knuckled force.

Desperate to break the silence, she blurted out, "Didn't they say we could go stargazing on this trip? The path lights outside are so bright you can't see a single star."

No sooner had the words left her mouth than all the temporary streetlamps outside suddenly shut off.

The abrupt darkness triggered a brief wave of commotion around the lake.

"Why did the lights go out?"

"It's pitch black out here. I can't even see the path."
