Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 112

The night before the surgery, Sloane went to the hospital cafeteria for dinner.

She had barely sat down when Miles walked over, carrying a tray of food.

"Dr. Sutton, mind if I sit across from you?" Miles asked politely.

Sloane nodded.

"You've been working so hard lately." Miles slid a bottled drink across the table. "This is for you."

"No, thank you," Sloane declined smoothly.

"But I grabbed two. It'll go to waste if you don't drink it."

"..." Sloane gave him a flat look. "This is a buffet. If you aren't going to drink it, just put it back."

Miles burst into laughter. He was young, and his smile was radiant and striking.

"I was just joking. You always seem so serious. Are all doctors like this?"

Sloane countered, "Would you prefer a doctor who isn't serious?"

"That's not what I meant," Miles said. "It's just that, over the past few days, I've felt like you have some hostility toward me. Is it because of my dad and Evelyn?"

Sloane paused.

She really didn't want to get too close to Miles. For one, it was just her personality, and secondly, it absolutely had to do with Zachary and her biological mother.

Sloane poked at the potatoes on her plate with her fork. "You and my mom seem very close."

"Honestly, when I first found out about their relationship, I had a hard time accepting it," Miles admitted. "But I eventually figured it out. My dad is still relatively young, and he needs someone who truly cares for him. Plus, even if they're together, my dad won't love me any less. Instead, I also gained Evelyn's love. It's a win-win."

Sloane offered a bitter smile.

Not losing a father's love, while gaining a mother's.

Who wouldn't want a deal like that?
