Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 114

It looked light and appetizing.

Did Evelyn ask him to bring it? Sloane wondered.

Had her mother finally started caring about her?

Just as the thought crossed her mind, her phone buzzed with a text.

Miles: *How's the breakfast?*

Sloane: *I haven't eaten it yet.*

Miles: *I was dropping off breakfast for my dad and Evelyn, so I brought an extra portion for you. I hope it suits your taste.*

A wave of profound disappointment washed over Sloane.

It wasn't from her mother.

She should have known. Why would her mother ever make room for a daughter in her heart?

Sloane: *Why did you bring me breakfast?*

Miles: *Because you worked so hard on my dad's surgery, and you're Evelyn's daughter.*

A bitter lump formed in Sloane's throat.

Evelyn must treat Miles incredibly well, right? Otherwise, why would he be so attentive to her daughter?

Sloane: *Thank you.*

After wrestling with her feelings for a moment, she finally ate the meal.

Once she finished, she washed the container spotless and carried it to Zachary's room.

Even though ICU visiting hours were strictly limited to a few minutes a day, Evelyn was too anxious to leave. She had practically moved into the hospital, staying in the VIP suite Zachary had booked.

When Sloane walked in, Evelyn was standing by the window, staring blankly out at the city.

Evelyn was an undeniably beautiful woman. Even in her fifties, she possessed a timeless elegance. Tall and radiant, she looked like a stunning woman in her early thirties from behind.

"Mom," Sloane greeted her.

Evelyn turned around. Seeing Sloane, her eyes held no warmth or joy.

She looked at her as if she were just any other doctor.

"You're here."

Sloane set the container on the nightstand. "Miles brought me breakfast. I ate it, so I'm returning this."

"He brought you breakfast?" Evelyn asked, surprised.
