Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 126

She occasionally checked her phone, hoping to see a missed call from Logan.

She couldn't understand her own tangled emotions. She clearly resented him and blamed him, yet she couldn't stop herself from hoping he would reach out.

Was this just the agonizing withdrawal of a broken attachment?

She forced herself not to contact him.

Late the following evening, she received a call from Miles Valerius.

"Sloane, let's meet up. I'm near your hospital."

"There's really no need for that," Sloane replied coldly.

She had already clocked out and was walking out of the main entrance while on the phone.

The moment she hung up, she spotted Miles standing right ahead of her.

Miles hurried over with a bright smile. "Sloane, it's so good to see you."

"What do you want?" she asked, getting straight to the point.

"Let me treat you to dinner. We can find a nice place to sit down and talk."

Sloane let out a dry scoff.

Fine. She might as well see what kind of nonsense he had to spout.

They ended up at the same casual buffet restaurant.

Miles looked visibly reluctant. "We really could have gone somewhere much quieter and more upscale."

Sloane looked up at him. "Are you loaded?"

"Well... I wouldn't say loaded, but I'm certainly not strapped for cash."

"Then does eating here offend your delicate sensibilities?" she asked flatly.

"Not at all. Here is perfectly fine," Miles conceded, knowing he couldn't win an argument with her.

Once they had loaded their plates, Miles finally looked at her and asked, "My dad transferring hospitals the other day... it didn't cause any trouble for you at work, did it?"
