Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 127

The dinner ended in painful awkwardness.

After discovering that Sloane was married, Miles was completely deflated.

Even the way he held his fork seemed stiff and uncomfortable.

Sloane, on the other hand, ate her meal in perfect peace.

She was about to dive into a brand-new life and a new job.

Regardless of everything else, getting far away from toxic people and their endless drama was something worth celebrating.

Before leaving, Sloane only sent a text to Lydia Vance.

"Lydia, I'm heading out to a remote area for a medical support mission. Wish me luck!"

Lydia was absolutely stunned and immediately called her back. "What?! Who made that call? Was it your hospital director? Are they completely blind and short-sighted? Transferring a brilliant doctor with your potential—isn't that entirely their loss?"

Sloane smiled faintly. "The world keeps spinning no matter who leaves."

"Did you start listening to my brother's ridiculous life philosophies? Let's be real, not everyone gets the chance to go to space."

"Let's not dwell on it," Sloane said gently. "I just wanted to let you know so that if you ever think of me, you won't assume I'm still stuck in Capital City."

"Sloane..." Lydia's voice grew thick with reluctance. "How about I come visit you? Or maybe you can come back and see me?"

"No thanks. I'm really not good at goodbyes, you know that."

"But what about your husband when you're gone?"

Sloane fell silent for a moment.

"We aren't going to last. When the time is right, I'll contact him to do the artificial insemination. Assuming he hasn't found someone else he actually likes by then."

If he did find someone he loved and had a child with them, her marriage to him would automatically be annulled.

The Global Fertility Association only cared about the breeding quotas anyway.

Thinking about it all over again still made Sloane's chest ache with a dull, throbbing pain.

Perhaps she and Logan really would never see each other again.

Lydia sighed heavily through the phone. "What a tragedy. Such a massive waste. Sloane, you are never going to find another guy with a body that incredible and a face that handsome. If you ask me, you should at least get a baby out of him!"

"What kind of nonsense is that?" Sloane scolded.

"It's just genetics! If there's no love anyway, having a stunningly gorgeous baby that's all yours isn't a bad deal, right?"

"I don't have the energy for this," Sloane sighed.
