Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 128

"Then there you go. It's a stepping stone."

Zoe couldn't help but ask, "I get why I'm going—my numbers were bad. But why you? I know you've successfully pulled off several major surgeries and even published papers. The hospital group chat was always praising you. By all accounts, you should have had your pick of assignments."

Sloane remained silent.

Zoe pressed, "Could it be because of Director York..."

"Let's drop it," Sloane said firmly. "We're here now, so let's just make the best of it."

It was time to board.

Dragging her suitcase, Sloane walked down the long jet bridge and finally stepped onto the aircraft.

The flight attendant greeted her warmly, and she offered a polite nod in return.

Her seat was by the window. She watched the tarmac outside, observing planes landing and taking off in a rhythmic, endless cycle.

And she, too, was about to be launched toward an unknown destination.

Such was life.

Just as she was lost in thought, a familiar voice called out her name. "Sloane!"

Sloane turned around and came face-to-face with Miles Valerius.

Miles looked absolutely thrilled. "I knew it was you! I thought I saw you in the terminal earlier."

Miles had been waiting in the VIP lounge when he first spotted her silhouette.

He hadn't quite believed his eyes.

Was she going on a business trip?

Knowing she was married, Miles hadn't dared to approach and interrupt her.

But while boarding, he caught sight of her again.

They were actually on the same flight!

"Sloane, are you heading to Aurelia too?"

"Thanks to you," Sloane replied, her tone as icy as a winter freeze, retaining zero affection for him.

Miles looked thoroughly confused. "Thanks to me?"
