Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 137

The next morning.

When Sloane woke up, the first things she heard were the distant crash of the waves and the deep blare of a ferry horn.

Birds chirped outside her window.

The air was thick with the salty tang of the sea breeze mixed with the lush scent of tropical greenery.

Everything about the morning made Sloane feel like she had been reborn.

It felt as though she had escaped a suffocating cage and stumbled into an untouched paradise.

The only thing missing was the man she loved.

At the thought of Logan, her eyes involuntarily welled with tears, and a dull ache settled in her chest.

After being single her entire life, she had finally found someone she wanted to spend forever with—but he hadn't felt the same.

"Marriage is just for having kids. What did you think it was? For love? At my age, after all the women I've been with, I stopped caring about love a long time ago."

Sloane thought bitterly: Maybe all the beautiful things in the world just weren't meant for her.

The only thing she could truly rely on was her career.

She got out of bed to wash up.

Because the naval hospital was severely understaffed, she scored a private dormitory.

The room had its own en-suite bathroom and a small balcony at the back.

As she stood on the balcony brushing her teeth, she noticed a cluster of buildings in the far distance.

She could make out a running track, basketball courts, and a large dining hall.

That had to be the military base.

It was too far away to see any real details.

But perhaps because Logan was still fresh on her mind, she swore she saw a silhouette out there that looked exactly like his.

She violently shook her head.

The figure quickly disappeared.

Sloane let out a self-deprecating laugh.
