Sloane smiled. "It's all yours."
Jude immediately roasted him. "Look at the size of you, and you're still eating!"
Hugo defended himself. "I only had two muffins for breakfast!"
Jude scoffed. "And what about that entire box of donuts? Did you feed those to the stray dogs?"
"You skinny people just don't understand a big man's appetite."
Hugo dragged the breakfast back to his office and devoured it in record time.
Maybe because he was eating the man's food, Hugo couldn't help but defend Miles. "Dr. Sutton, that guy seemed really solid. He's handsome, he's in Communications, and he clearly carries himself well. Why did you give him the cold shoulder?"
Sloane paused.
She didn't know how to explain the tangled mess to him, so she simply chose not to.
Hugo shook his head in mock disappointment. "Kids these days."
Hugo himself was barely pushing forty.
"I'm heading to my office," Sloane said smoothly, dodging the conversation.
Outside the hospital, Walter was wielding a hammer, aggressively nailing up new department signs.
With Sloane and Zoe on staff, Walter had officially divided up the clinic. Sloane's door now read "Neurosurgery," while Zoe's read "Obstetrics & Gynecology."
While Sloane was unfazed, Zoe was incredibly anxious.
She hovered nervously near Walter. "Before I got here, did anyone actually come in for OB-GYN issues?"
"Rosalie used to handle all of that," Walter replied.
Noticing Zoe's lack of confidence, he added, "You're the specialist. You've got a whole degree in this. You've got to be better at it than Rosalie, right?"
"To be completely honest, I don't have a lot of practical experience," Zoe admitted.
"Well, how are you supposed to get experience if you don't do the work?"
Hearing his blunt but supportive logic, Zoe looked at him with sheer gratitude. "You're right! I'm going to give it my all!"
The words had barely left her mouth when a motorized utility cart tore into the hospital courtyard.
"Doctor! Help my father-in-law!" a frantic woman screamed from the driver's seat.
