Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 140

The two sons instantly stopped shouting, though they still stubbornly demanded an explanation.

Walter glared at the men. "Let me ask you a very simple question. Your father suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. If immediate surgery could not only save his life but give him a chance to live completely independently again, do you authorize the procedure or let him die?"

Because of the earlier commotion, a small crowd of local fishermen had gathered at the entrance to watch.

Cornered, the sons stammered, "Of course we save him."

"Then our decision to perform an emergency, life-saving surgery was entirely justified. Do you have a problem with that?"

"N-no problem," the eldest son mumbled.

The younger son crossed his arms. "But how are we supposed to know if it was really necessary? What if you're just racking up charges and doing useless procedures?"

"I'll hand you the itemized surgical breakdown myself," Walter shot back. "You can verify every single charge with the medical board if you want to!"

Walter then turned his piercing gaze toward Melanie and the second woman.

His tone softened slightly. "You two are the daughters-in-law. I know it's not your place to make the final call for the patriarch. And frankly, I understand where you're coming from. You run the households. You work the fields. If you suddenly have to become full-time caregivers for a bedridden man on top of raising your kids, it would break you."

Hearing Walter openly acknowledge their deepest, darkest fears, the anger drained from the two women, and they burst into genuine tears.

Walter gestured toward the hall. "Come into the conference room. Let's sit down and talk this through properly."

Disarmed by his empathy, the women finally dropped their defensive walls and followed him.

The entire family sat around the large table.

Walter pulled out his chair, radiating an effortless, commanding authority.

"It's terrifying for ordinary folks like us to face a massive medical crisis. But who can guarantee they'll stay perfectly healthy their whole life? Not even doctors can promise that. If it's a terminal illness that's going to bankrupt the family with zero chance of recovery, then yes, sometimes letting go is the right call. You shouldn't drag the whole family down with a lost cause."
