"Do you know where he's from? Or anything about his family?" Sloane asked.
Zoe shook her head.
Sloane sighed. "You're taking things way too fast. Aren't you worried he's just using you for your body?"
Zoe's cheeks burned bright red. "Well, it's hard to say who's using who."
Leaning in close, Zoe whispered into Sloane's ear, "Honestly, I think I like his body more."
Sloane was utterly speechless.
After Zoe went back inside, Sloane couldn't help but think about how incredibly small this island was.
In a place this tiny, there was no room for complicated games or playing hard to get. A man and a woman could meet, date for a week, and dive straight into bed without a second thought.
She had a sinking feeling she was going to run into Logan again very soon.

Wednesday.
Director Lucas called all the medical staff in for an assembly.
"The military is gearing up for another exercise, and our hospital needs to run a medical support drill. Half of our staff will be deployed for the next week."
Director Lucas began reading off names, and Sloane was one of them.
She instinctively tried to refuse. "Director Lucas, I..."
"Your department barely has any patients," Director Lucas interrupted. "There's no point in you staying behind. Dr. Rosalie Reed can handle things here."
That settled it.
Two hours later, Director Lucas led the team out.
They boarded a medical vessel and headed out to sea.
The ship was named 'The Silk Road Ark'.
Despite its compact size, it was fully equipped with an emergency room, an operating theater, and top-tier rescue gear.
Once out on the water, the staff was divided into teams based on triage levels, practicing emergency protocols like stopping bleeding, bandaging, splinting, and CPR.
Strangely, the anxiety that had been gnawing at Sloane vanished the moment she saw the fighter jets circling above and the warships cutting through the waves.
All her personal drama was swept away, replaced by an overwhelming sense of duty and patriotism.
The rescue drills commenced.
Sloane was assigned to the aerial rescue team.
