Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 226

Logan suddenly choked on the broth, coughing violently until he had to put the bowl down.

"Are you okay?" Sloane asked, quickly getting up to pat his back.

"I'm fine." Logan caught her hand and gently squeezed it. "I couldn't ask you to cook for me for the rest of your life. Your hands were meant to hold a scalpel."

Sloane kept her tone light. "Well, there aren't exactly a lot of surgeries to perform here on the island."

Logan looked at her intently. "Have you been thinking about transferring back to the hospital in Capital City? I can pull some strings to make it happen."

Sloane's heart bled a little more.

She shook her head. "No need. I want to stay here with you."

Logan didn't push the issue. Instead, he pulled her into a tight embrace. "Alright. Stay. Keep me company."

Wrapped in his arms, Sloane couldn't stop the image of Danielle clinging to him in the hallway from flashing behind her eyelids.

But she forced the thought away.

She hugged him back fiercely. "I love you, Logan."

Logan stiffened.

He pulled back just enough to frame her face with his hands, searching her eyes.

"Do you?"

Sloane avoided his gaze. Instead, she buried her face in his chest, holding onto him as if letting go would mean losing him forever. "Logan, you're a good guy."

"Are you giving me the 'nice guy' brush-off already?"

That night, after showering, Sloane crawled into bed.

Logan followed shortly after.

Sloane rolled over and tucked herself against his chest.

It was abundantly clear that Logan had zero desire to be intimate with her.

He simply patted her shoulder. "It's late. Let's get some sleep."
