Having all three of them in the same room was agonizingly awkward.
Since Logan had asked her not to overthink things, she was going to do exactly that—nothing.
Zoe, however, felt furious on Sloane's behalf.
That evening, Zoe cornered her. "I was doing rounds at noon, and I saw Logan and Danielle laughing and joking in her room. He was literally spoon-feeding her! What the hell is going on? You're his actual wife!"
Sloane fell silent.
It was true. She was his legal wife.
Which was why, at the end of the day, Logan still came back to her dorm to sleep.
At ten o'clock that night, Logan dragged his exhausted body through the door.
Sloane was already propped up in bed, playing a puzzle game on her phone. Seeing him walk in, she gave a brief nod of acknowledgment.
"I'm going to grab a shower," Logan muttered.
"Go ahead. I'll get you a fresh towel and slippers."
"Thanks."
"Do you remember how to adjust the water heater?"
"Yeah, I remember."
When Logan emerged from the bathroom, Sloane asked casually, "Is Danielle doing better?"
"Much better. She managed to eat half a bowl of soup today."
"That's great. As long as her appetite is back, the rest of her recovery will go smoothly."
"It's all thanks to your brilliant medical skills."
"Just doing my job."
Their conversation flowed with the mundane, practiced rhythm of an old married couple.
Especially once they got into bed, neither of them made the slightest move to close the distance.
Sloane rolled over and fell asleep within minutes.
It was a survival tactic she had perfected over years of exhausting shifts.
In the quiet dark, Logan turned his head to watch her peaceful face.
She looked incredibly serene.
But he spent the rest of the night staring blankly at the ceiling, utterly incapable of sleep.
