Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 49

Sloane couldn't read Logan's mood at all.

She kept flashing back to the night before Liam's surgery—to that thirty-second kiss.

They had definitely both felt the spark then.

She had caught herself thinking about it over the last few days, too.

Just the memory of sitting on his lap and feeling his mouth on hers was enough to ignite a strange, restless heat inside her.

She had assumed that after a few days apart, they would both be eager to see each other.

But he didn't seem excited in the slightest.

Sloane was genuinely confused.

Wasn't the tension between a man and a woman supposed to build? Why did it feel like they had taken ten steps backward?

Was it because she had practically lived at the hospital for days and ignored him?

I guess even red-hot iron turns ice-cold if you leave it out long enough.

"Well... since you're already eating that one, I'll just put this in the fridge," Sloane said.

Logan offered nothing more than a stiff, indifferent nod.

Sloane put the cake away and glanced back at him.

He was just scrolling through his phone, eating his cake.

He was acting like she didn't even exist.

A cold hollow feeling settled in Sloane's chest.

Whatever. I'll just go take a shower.

After her shower, Sloane gathered her dirty scrubs and carried them to the balcony.

Logan was no longer in the living room.

The empty box from his cake was shoved into the trash can.

He actually finished the whole thing!

Sloane tossed her clothes into the washing machine and sat in the living room for a bit.

She couldn't stop thinking about his icy attitude. Refusing to let it fester, she decided to confront him.

She knocked on his bedroom door, and Logan's voice drifted through: "Come in!"

Opening the door, she saw Logan sitting at his desk, meticulously assembling a model fighter jet.
