Serena stomped furiously over to Logan and Sloane.
"What are you doing here? How did you get tickets for the seven o'clock show?"
Logan met her glare. "None of your business."
"You..."
Serena quickly dialed Zane's number. "Zane, why aren't you here yet? Didn't we agree to do the escape room together?"
Zane's voice came through the speaker. "Oh, those tickets? I was too busy, so I tossed them to our mechanic."
"Zane, how could you..."
"I'm slammed right now. Gotta go."
Serena turned her wrath back to Logan. "I knew it! You really are just the grease monkey from Zane's garage. I paid for those tickets, and I forbid you from participating."
But the tickets had already been scanned.
The staff member stepped in, warning Serena, "If you don't hit the twenty-player count, your team is going to be severely disadvantaged in the puzzles."
Serena had no choice but to drop it.
Fine, you want to play? Let's see if you don't piss your pants in terror.

The game accommodated twenty players, divided into five groups of four.
Because Serena had built her entire roster assuming Zane was coming, her pre-planned cliques left her and Lily forced into a group with Sloane and Logan.
The four-person squad's first location was the autopsy room.
Their objective was to find clues hidden within the cold, sterile space.
The moment the heavy iron door slammed shut behind them, a bone-deep chill washed over the room.
It was pitch black and freezing.
It wasn't just the air conditioning; it was a damp, creeping cold that seemed to seep straight into their bones.
The heavy scent of formalin hung in the air, mixed with a sickeningly sweet metallic tang—like rot masked by industrial bleach.
Serena instantly latched onto Lily's arm, the two girls huddling together in terror.
Logan, worried that Sloane might be frightened, instinctively stepped closer to her.
He remembered Zane mentioning once that when girls got scared, they naturally gravitated toward a guy's chest.
However, in the pitch black, Sloane's breathing remained perfectly steady. She didn't seem fazed at all.
