Madam Beatrice marched right up to Sloane, took her hands in a firm grip, and shot a piercing glare at the surrounding crowd. "She is my personal guest. Let's see who dares to lay a finger on her!"

Sloane stared at Madam Beatrice, feeling a strong sense of déjà vu.

After a long moment, it suddenly clicked: this was the elderly lady with memory lapses who had lost her dentures.

She also heard the surrounding crowd respectfully whispering her name: Madam Beatrice.

Madam Beatrice pulled Sloane away from the dessert station, leading her to the very center of the grand hall. She looked Sloane up and down, side to side, her eyes gleaming with approval. "Wonderful. Absolutely stunning."

Sloane didn't know what to say.

Madam Beatrice patted her own right wrist, realizing something was missing.

Wanting to make this formal acknowledgment perfect, she smiled brightly at Sloane. "Wait right here. I'm going to grab my heirloom bangle. Give me ten minutes!"

"Grandma, you really don't have to," Sloane tried to decline.

Madam Beatrice beamed with pure joy. "You just called me Grandma! How can I not give you the family bangle?"

She patted Sloane's hand insistently. "Just wait right here. I have to go fetch it myself because nobody else knows the code to my personal safe."

Sloane felt utterly helpless.

The poor woman's memory lapses were acting up again.

She chose not to wait.

Since Logan wasn't here anyway, there was no reason to stick around.

Sloane hurried toward the exit.

Just as she reached the doors, a couple stepped out of a luxury SUV.

Sloane had every intention of pretending not to know them, but Silas called out, "Sloane?"

Silas looked her up and down. Seeing her walking out of the exclusive hotel, he demanded, "What are you doing here?"

Madeline quickly tugged on Silas's sleeve, putting on a fake smile. "Since you're already here, why don't you come back inside? Serena is in there. You girls can catch up."
