Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 88

"Fine, I'll serve myself," Serena grumbled, snatching a piece of fish and biting into it.

Seeing Sloane eating quietly, Silas adopted a warm, gentle tone. "How have you been lately, Sloane? Is work going well?"

Sloane was always vulnerable to kindness. She nodded. "Everything is fine."

"And your marriage? The man you married... what was his name again?"

Given the awkward tension between her and Logan over the past two days, she really didn't want to discuss him.

Serena happily hijacked the conversation. "When we went to The Labyrinth the other week, I heard Sloane call him Logan. Right?"

Sloane gave a stiff nod.

Silas sighed deeply. "To be honest, it's not that I fiercely oppose your marriage, but relying on a blind GFA lottery is a massive gamble. You deserve much better. We have brilliant, ambitious executives at Astra Group. If you married one of them..."

Sloane cut him off cleanly. "I'm already married."

Serena chimed in again. "Yeah, Dad. They're practically joined at the hip. They gang up on me like professionals. You have no idea how in sync they are."

Silas shot Serena a warning look. "Let's leave the past in the past."

Serena instantly shut her mouth.

The main course arrived. Once the meat was perfectly cooked, Silas served the best piece of chicken directly onto Sloane's plate. "Here, Sloane. Have the drumstick. I caught this one myself."

"Thank you," Sloane replied softly.

"You know, you never address me anymore. It's been so long since I heard you call me Dad."

Sloane remained silent.

The word felt like ash on her tongue.

They were practically strangers.

Silas didn't push the issue. He continued serving her food before shifting gears. "By the way, Sloane, Serena mentioned that you're acquainted with Madam Beatrice Lennox?"

"Beatrice Lennox?"

Sloane shook her head, frowning. The name sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn't place it.

Serena rolled her eyes, impatient. "Stop playing dumb. At the gala at The Grand Century Hotel? When we were arguing, that old woman stepped in and defended you. You ended up walking off with her!"
