Its eyes were utterly devoid of warmth, and a deep, guttural rumble tore from its throat.
It was terrifying.
Sloane couldn't help but dig her fingers into Logan's arm.
Scanning their surroundings, Logan spotted a dense thicket nearby. He ordered her, "Hide in there."
"What about you?"
"Don't worry about me!"
Knowing she'd only be a liability, Sloane obediently scrambled into the bushes.
Once he saw she was secure, Logan immediately drew the lion's attention, ensuring it wouldn't even look in her direction.
Sloane was deeply shaken by his selflessness.
When a man willingly puts his life on the line to protect you, it was impossible not to be moved.
Having successfully lured the lion away, Logan finally opened fire.
But this lion wasn't going down easily.
He fired over a dozen rounds into it, but instead of dying, the beast seemed to tap into an enraged reservoir of power. It crouched low, then launched itself straight at Logan.
Logan didn't even flinch.
Sloane screamed.
Tears instantly pricked her eyes.
No!
The lion had Logan pinned to the ground.
Ignoring every instinct of self-preservation, she sprinted toward him.
But just as she reached the fray, Logan slid out from under the beast's underbelly.
He flashed her a cocky, triumphant grin.
Sloane stopped dead in her tracks, dumbfounded.
Logan seamlessly rolled to his feet, casually twirling a combat knife. "Had to finish it with this."
A suffocating wave of relief crashed over her.
In that split second, unable to hold back, she threw herself into his arms, her voice cracking. "You scared me to death!"
