Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 208

Mrs. Gonzalez trembled when she met Naomi's gaze.

In that moment, she seemed to understand the meaning behind Naomi's look.

This was the chance Naomi was giving them.

If they still chose to side with the Hughes family, they might lose their daughter's heart for good.

Mrs. Gonzalez's throat tightened. She felt a mix of guilt and irritation.

Mr. Gonzalez wasn't thinking that deeply. In his view, whatever was between Zebulon and Tiffany, it was over now, and that was that.

Since Tiffany was behind last night's incident, all that mattered was that the Hughes family showed the proper attitude.

The relationship between their two families couldn't be ruined over some unknown woman.

So, Mr. Gonzalez said magnanimously, "Since that Tiffany person was the cause, just handle it properly. Naomi will understand."

It was as if everything was settled.

Naomi closed her eyes, a bitter smile playing on her lips.

She had known this would be the outcome, but it still felt like a piece of her heart was missing.

So this was what it felt like to be abandoned by your own family. It hurt so much.

How had Lennon endured it all these years?

He had faced unfair treatment from their entire social circle.

Naomi didn't dare to imagine it. If she were in Lennon's shoes, she would have gone mad long ago.

"Naomi?"

Mr. and Mrs. Hughes looked at Naomi.

She was the victim, after all. If she didn't speak, their position would remain awkward.

Naomi took a deep breath, raised her eyes, and slowly scanned the faces in the living room.

Mr. and Mrs. Hughes were also displeased. Naomi's attitude seemed forgiving on the surface, but anyone could see she was still resentful.

If she was like this before even marrying into the family, she would probably be a handful later on.

Mrs. Hughes masked her displeasure, turning to Mrs. Gonzalez with a smile. "It's alright. We understand if Naomi has things to do. This whole incident was Zebulon's fault, really. Let's just let the kids sort it out themselves, what do you think?"

"Of course."

Mr. Gonzalez said with a laugh, "We're too old to get involved in their affairs. How about this, Zebulon? The weekend is coming up. We promised Naomi we'd take her back home for a visit. She's a sentimental girl. Take her on a trip down memory lane, and any anger she's feeling will just melt away."

A flicker of understanding lit up Zebulon's eyes.

That was exactly what Carter had suggested.

So, it had to be a good idea.

"Yes, Mr. Gonzalez. I understand. I won't let Naomi down this time."
