Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 224

Patricia couldn't help but hug Naomi. "As your friend, I’m so glad you’re out of that painful chapter. You deserve the light after all that darkness."

Patricia had witnessed firsthand the depths of Naomi's love for Zebulon.

She had done so much for him, only to be met with coldness and constant humiliation. Patricia had long felt it was unfair to Naomi.

But now, it was for the best. Zebulon was with someone else, and Naomi no longer loved him. In the future, they would go their separate ways, and everyone would have a bright future.

"This is a new beginning."

Naomi nodded firmly.

The previously silent room door clicked and was pulled open from the inside.

Hearing the sound, Patricia and Naomi instinctively turned to look and saw Zebulon, his body covered in marks.

He was shirtless, the intimate marks on full display.

Patricia couldn't help but click her tongue. "I have to say, he's actually in pretty good shape."

The last remnants of sleep were driven away by Patricia's voice.

As his thoughts slowly cleared, Zebulon finally opened his eyes fully and saw Naomi and a disgusted-looking Patricia standing at the door.

"Naomi? What are you doing here?"

Before Naomi could speak, Patricia exploded. "That's a hilarious question. Where else would she be?"

Zebulon sent her the text himself, so why was he playing dumb now?

Zebulon frowned. Patricia despised him, and he, in turn, couldn't stand the loud-mouthed Patricia. He was about to tell her to shut up because her voice was making his head buzz when he suddenly noticed the marks on his body. Zebulon's expression changed instantly.

"What is this..."

Before Zebulon could figure out what was going on, a woman's soft, hoarse voice came from inside the room. "Zebulon? What's wrong?"

Back then, Naomi was always trailing after him. One time, annoyed, he had snapped, "Will you ever stop? Everyone is their own person. Why do you insist on following me around? Don't you have a mind of your own?"

At the time, Zebulon was simply irritated, and the words had just slipped out.

But now, hearing Naomi say them back to him, he finally understood how deeply those words could cut.

"Naomi..."

Naomi said, "You should deal with your own affairs first. Since there's nothing you needed me for, I'll be going."

"Goodbye."

Naomi nodded at Zebulon. The word "goodbye" was spoken softly, but they both knew it carried a deeper meaning.

For the first time, Zebulon saw with stark clarity what his deepest fear truly was.

It was the fear of Naomi leaving him.
