But Zebulon also knew, with painful clarity, that this time Naomi was truly leaving him.
While it was normal for a man to be with a woman, Naomi wasn't one to tolerate betrayal.
Now that she had witnessed this with her own eyes, there was clearly no turning back.
Zebulon had never felt his mind as sharp as it was in this moment.
But he would rather be mad, his thoughts muddled. That way, he wouldn't be able to analyze Naomi's thoughts and could still deceive himself.
He wanted to tell himself that this was just a small thing, that Naomi loved him so much he could just sweet-talk her and win her back.
He definitely could.
But Zebulon's shoulders slowly slumped.
A sense of powerlessness nearly crushed him.
Watching Naomi walk towards the elevator, as if about to disappear from his world forever, Zebulon couldn't help but cry out, "Naomi!"
The words "don't go" tumbled around on his tongue, but because Naomi entered the elevator without a single look back, he was never able to say them.
The elevator doors closed.
Naomi's figure was completely gone.
Strangely, Zebulon's mind was flooded with images of Naomi chasing after him in the past.
There was Naomi, having just arrived in Tyra, greeting him with a bright smile.
There was Naomi, slowly getting to know them, but always trailing only behind him. When Carter and the others teased her, she admitted directly that she had a thing for him.
There was also Naomi, trying to stop him from drinking, and him furiously telling her to get lost.
In his memories, Naomi had been incredibly good to him, practically giving him her whole heart.
But he had taken her affection for granted, doing as he pleased. He was such an asshole.
He couldn't even bear to recall the things he had said to her.
It was unimaginable how Naomi had managed to compose herself after being yelled at, only to show up the next day with a smile on her face.
