“Of course.”
The moment Thora spoke, she stopped restraining Amie’s consciousness.

A snowy white wolf began to take shape behind her, its phantom form slowly emerging. At the same time, the cool, clean scent of iris spread through the room like mist, filling every corner in an instant.
Darius had just been about to head upstairs to see whether Thora was awake.
Then, in the very next second, a scent crashed into him with irresistible force. Cool. Clean. One of a kind. It was a scent carved into his soul.
The air around him rippled sharply, and a black wolf phantom condensed at his side, wild with excitement.
“Our fated mate! It’s our fated mate!”
Lorcan let out an agitated low howl and shot toward Thora’s room almost at once.
Darius’s heart shook. He hurried after him without a second’s delay. The moment he pushed open the door, his breath caught.
Thora stood in the center of the room, wrapped in the faintest glow. Behind her, the white wolf had fully taken shape, silver-gray eyes bright and vividly alive. It was Thora’s wolf soul, Amie.
“Mate! Mate!”
Lorcan couldn’t hold back any longer. The black wolf leaped forward and ran straight to Amie.
As an ancient Abyssal Black Wolf, Lorcan was a born battle wolf, cold and fierce by nature. But now all of that aggression vanished completely. He only lowered his head and rubbed gently against Amie’s neck, a soft sound rising from his throat. It was the most reverent and intimate way a wolf spirit could acknowledge its destined mate.
Amie’s white wolf phantom instantly grew excited too. Her snowy fur puffed slightly as she nudged Lorcan’s cheek with her nose, the tip of her tail brushing tenderly along his back in silent answer.
The two wolves pressed their noses together, their breaths mingling as they leaned into one another, their eyes filled with the joy of a long-delayed reunion. There was no barrier between them, no unfamiliarity at all.
It was as though from the very beginning of creation, they had already been destined to belong to each other.
Darius walked toward Thora one step at a time, the emotion in his eyes almost spilling over. He gently caught her wrist. Even his fingertips were trembling. His voice was thick with joy and excitement.
“Thora, we really are fated mates. We were always meant to be together.”
Because of their inborn flaw, neither Thora nor Amie could sense the pull of a fated bond. But the crisp cedar-like scent on Darius was like a magnet to her, drawing her in completely.

Feeling his unguarded happiness and the burning sincerity in his heart, she felt warmth spread quietly through her chest. The corner of her mouth lifted.
She said nothing. Instead, she tipped her head up and kissed him first. This kiss held none of the fierce struggle from the one in the car. There was only tenderness.
I’m glad I can be your fated mate.
They held each other tightly, pouring the longing of two years and the tremor of this moment into that single kiss.
Not far away, the two wolf phantoms stayed close, nuzzling, leaning together, pacing in soft circles, their low cries lingering in sweet reluctance. Neither Thora nor Darius disturbed them.
This reunion had come years late. The wolves deserved all the time they needed.
“What’s your wolf’s name?” Thora asked softly.
Darius wrapped her in his arms and looked toward the two shadows playing together nearby.
“Lorcan. An ancient Abyssal Black Wolf, the purest bloodline among the ancient war wolves. He’s wanted to meet Amie for a long time. I was only afraid of offending you, so I never let him get close. I never thought…”
He lowered his gaze to her, happiness shining openly in his eyes.
“… you’d finally be willing to let us meet her yourself.”
Thora watched Amie, who was far more lively than her usual calm self, and answered in an even tone, “Before this, I had too many troubles hanging over me. Until things settled down, I didn’t want to expose my wolf.”
Even now, there were still plenty of troubles around her. The matter with the Blue Research Institute was unresolved, and the truth about her background was still unknown.
But she had only just returned from Blue Star Military Academy. Before those problems came looking for her again, she ought to allow herself to relax a little. And she had already decided that Darius was her mate. They were about to complete their bond. It was time for their wolves to meet. There was also her biggest secret of all.
“Amie is an ancient White Wolf. You’ve probably already noticed that we’re different. As long as I don’t allow it, no one can detect our pheromones or the fluctuations of our wolf power.”
