The Apocalyptic Queen’s Werewolf Journey

Chapter 543 A Return Worth Witnessing

Finished

When Darius heard that Oliver had gone to the Reeds to propose an engagement, his expression didn’t change. He stayed focused on his game of pool.

Oliver usually came across as careless and playful, but when it came to real business, he was steadier and more decisive than almost anyone. He also had more than a few hidden methods of his own. Otherwise, there was no way he could have climbed so quickly through Astralis’s parliament and reached his current position at such a young age.

Maybe in the past, Oliver had simply let Shirley do as she pleased because, in his mind, her dependence on him was something no one else could replace. But everything changed after Thora appeared. Shirley’s personality had gradually started to shift, and Oliver was no longer the only person who could restrain her or influence her choices.

Still, Thora was a woman, and she was also Darius’s mate, so Oliver had never felt truly threatened. He had only waited in silence, expecting Shirley to come back to him on her own. But once that man named Mike appeared at the military academy, Oliver’s sense of crisis finally exploded. That was why he had moved so quickly to secure the engagement.

A faint smile touched Darius’s lips as he bent to line up the cue ball, amusement flickering in his eyes.

Whether Oliver would actually get what he wanted was still far from certain. In Darius’s view, that man named Mike wasn’t nearly as simple as he looked.

The cue ball shot forward. The other balls scattered across the table and dropped cleanly into the pockets one after another. A perfect clearance in a single shot.

Darius glanced at the time and asked, “Carl, have all the invitations gone out?”

Carl nodded. “Yes, Mr. Blackwood. Every last one has been delivered.”

Darius straightened and tapped the top of the cue stick lightly with his fingers. His tone was calm, but there was a chill beneath it sharp enough to cut.

“Good.”

Carl couldn’t help frowning. After a moment’s hesitation, he asked, “But didn’t you originally say you were only inviting the Alpha and Luna of Argenvale Pack? Why did the rest of the Lawsons receive invitations too?”

Darius smiled, but the coldness in his voice didn’t lessen in the slightest. “Because I want everyone who ever bullied her or looked down on her to crawl at her feet now. I want them to see her brilliance with their own eyes. I want them to watch her become someone they can never hope to reach again.”

Carl understood immediately. Darius was doing this for Thora. Caleb, who had humiliated and rejected Thora in public. Hazel, who had always targeted and mistreated her. Every person who had hurt Thora would be brought there to witness her transformation and her glory for themselves.

At the same time, at Astralis Military Headquarters, the door of a military vehicle swung open, and a tall figure stepped out with easy composure.

The moment people inside the building caught sight of her, they froze for a split second before immediately straightening in respect.

Hugo was bent over his paperwork, sorting documents with his head down. When he heard the knock, he didn’t even look up.

“Come in.”

A few seconds later, a dark figure was standing in front of his desk. Only then did Hugo lift his head. He had barely gotten out a single word.

“You…”

Then he practically launched himself out of his chair. “Holy hell! When did you get back, you brat? Why didn’t you warn me first? Are you trying to scare me to death?”

He pressed a hand to his chest as he spoke, breathing hard, as though he really might pass out from the shock.

A faintly teasing smile curved Thora’s lips. “Just now.”

The fact that she had come straight to military headquarters the moment she returned filled Hugo with satisfaction.

No, more than satisfaction. It filled him with pride.

After calming himself down, he finally looked Thora over from head to toe and started muttering, “You don’t look that different. Your hair’s gotten longer, I guess, and you’re not much tanner. You seem healthy enough, but you haven’t put on that much muscle either…”

Thora was silent for a beat.

“Can’t help it. I was born pretty and naturally well-proportioned.”

Hugo fell silent too. For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Hugo finally got to the point, his voice unable to hide his excitement.

Thora frowned slightly, pulled her diploma from the military bag she carried with her, and set it in front of him. Hugo immediately took it with both hands and examined it over and over, his face full of admiration.

“So it really is a Blue Star Military Academy diploma. Even the material feels different.

Only after confirming it several times did he solemnly hand it back to her.

“Put it away carefully. Don’t lose it.”

Thora paused. “… Okay.”

Once he saw her tuck it obediently back into her bag, Hugo finally looked reassured, though he still couldn’t help adding one more warning.

“Seriously. Keep it safe.”

Thora said nothing.

For one strange moment, she had the feeling this diploma seemed more like Hugo’s treasure than her own. He was guarding it more nervously than she was.

What Thora didn’t understand was what a diploma from Blue Star Military Academy meant to soldiers like them. It was the highest honor a soldier could receive, the ultimate recognition of status and worth, something whose value far exceeded rank itself. That was why Hugo treated it with such gravity.

After all, the influence of a Blue Star Military Academy diploma was enough to command the attention of anyone in the Astralis Empire. And Thora’s diploma was naturally among the

very

best of them.
