Chapter 250 A Fatal Accident
“Nice move, Mr. Shaw.”

Frederick looked at Tess texting right beside him and smiled softly, his eyes full of affection. “I’ll remember that reward.”
Tess grinned and sent back a kissing emoji.
“No virtual rewards,” Frederick replied.
Tess blinked in confusion. Virtual rewards?
“Tonight. Be ready for me.”
Frederick’s heart raced, and his breath quickened. “Alright. I’ll wait.”
Tess flipped through the auction catalog and glanced at Nadia, who nodded at her with a polite
smile.
“Tess, bid on anything you like. I’ll get it for you.”
“I don’t wear jewelry much.”
“You should still have some.”
Frederick bought every piece that caught his eye, and the whole room stared at Tess enviously.
“This one would suit Stella. I’ll give it to her.”
“I bought it for you.”
“You spoil me, I spoil her. Problem?”
Frederick’s gaze softened as he stroked her hair. “Whatever you say.”
Their conversation caught Nadia’s attention.
Stella?
Is that the girl Sean’s grandfather wants to put in charge of the Corbins?
Nadia felt a surge of resentment.
She had worked for years, staying unmarried and childless to serve the family. Yet as a side- branch member, she was still pushed aside.

They claimed the capable would rule, but she had worked a thousand times harder than Sean.
Tess felt her stare and turned to meet her eyes.
Nadia’s expression had already returned to calm.
A strange sound made Tess tense up at once.
She grabbed Frederick and Nadia and pulled them sharply to the side.
Bang!
A deafening crash froze the room in terror.
Nadia’s high heel slipped, twisting her ankle. She stumbled toward Tess, who quickly plucked a strand of hair from her head.
Her bodyguards rushed to help her up at once.
The crystal chandelier had crashed right where they had been sitting.
Nadia watched the scene calmly.
“Tess! Are you hurt?” Frederick’s face was tight with worry.
“I’m fine. You?”
“Me too.”
He gently smoothed her messy hair.
But Tess was confused.
Is this Nadia’s enemy? Or ours?
The chandelier is big enough to hurt all three of us.
Is it an accident?
No. I don’t believe that.
Nadia turned to her. “Thank you, young lady.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“I don’t know how to repay you. Pick any lot you like. I’ll buy it for you.”

Tess was surprised. The woman was being generous–these pieces started at a million dollars.
“No need. It was nothing.”
Frederick and Nadia exchanged a look.
“Mr. Shaw. Long time no see.”
“Long time no see.”
They both glanced up at the second floor, where a man stood with a lazy, mocking smile.
Tess followed their gaze and frowned.
It was him.
Rhett Corbin, the other rival for the Corbin heir position.
She looked at him, then at the broken chandelier, and suddenly understood.
If Nadia died or was injured, he lost a competitor.
If she or Frederick got hurt, it would pressure Stella into backing down.
That bastard–Stella didn’t even want the Corbin position in the first place.
“Why did it fall?”
“Look, blood! Someone’s hurt!”
“Did someone call an ambulance?”
“How irresponsible is the organizer?”
“That could’ve killed someone.”
People behind them had been hit, and the crowd erupted in noise.
The organizers rushed out to calm everyone and called for a doctor.
“Ms. Corbin, Mr. Shaw, so sorry! Are you alright?”
Nadia and Frederick stared at him coldly, and the man broke into a cold sweat.
“We’ll investigate this accident thoroughly and give you a full explanation.”

Frederick had no time for this and waved over his assistant to handle it.
“Mr. Shaw, may I speak with you?” Nadia said.
“Sure.”
As they left, Rhett’s smile vanished.
His eyes stared at Tess‘ back like a venomous snake.
In the private room, Nadia thanked Tess again.
“It’s really nothing.” Tess smiled and waved it off.
She had expected Nadia to accuse her of staging the whole thing.
“Mr. Shaw, what do you think happened?”
“Who benefits if both of us are taken out?” Frederick said calmly.
“The Corbins have been causing my sister trouble. She’s far too wealthy to care about your family’s throne.”
Nadia paused, then smiled.
“If something happens to me, Rhett loses a rival. If something happens to you, your sister will be even more likely to give up the position.”
