Chapter 268 Pretending to Be Scared

Stella spent almost every day in the lab. Elias worked overtime daily, picking their honeymoon spot and planning their wedding.
Kenneth accompanied Iris on her national concert tour. Leo left for further studies.
Frederick and Tess were head over heels in love every single day.
That day, Tess came to pick him up from work as usual. By coincidence, she ran into someone confessing to him right at the door.
She smiled, pressed her ear against the wall, and listened eagerly, enjoying the drama.
“Fred, I’ve liked you since freshman year. Can you give me a chance?” the girl asked shyly.
Frederick looked at her calmly. “Thank you for your feelings.”
“Then you…” the girl trailed off, hopeful.
“I have a girlfriend. She’s amazing, and she’s the one for me–for life,” he said firmly.
The girl’s eyes filled with tears.
“My girlfriend gets jealous easily. Please don’t go near her, to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.” Frederick added.
“I…”
“Also, besides my sister and my girlfriend, I don’t want any other girls calling me ‘Fred‘. You can leave now. Don’t come in again without permission,” he said, showing her the door. The girl left heartbroken.
As soon as she was gone, Tess walked in.
“Tess, you’re here,” Frederick said, his cold face lighting up into a big smile instantly.
“Another confession today,” Tess teased.
“Jealous?” he asked.
She shook her head. “I’m just thinking about what reward I deserve. I have such good taste, picking you.”
Frederick smiled fondly at her.
“I’ve come here so many times. How do people still not get it?” she complained.
He brushed her hair with his long, slender fingers and called his secretary’s office. “Announce to the whole company–I have a girlfriend. Anyone who dares to confess again can pack their things and leave,” he said, then hung up immediately.
He wouldn’t be rude to someone confessing, but if they kept doing it after knowing he had a girlfriend, that was a character issue. His company didn’t need people like that.

“Whoa, so tough,” Tess joked. She pulled his tie, forcing him to bend down. She raised an eyebrow and blew a breath at him. He felt a tickle on his cheek, and his heart fluttered too.
He couldn’t help but hold her head and kiss her deeply, their lips moving together.
After a long while, he hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry. I should have made our relationship public at the company earlier.”
He thought his obvious favor made it clear–Tess was the only girl besides Stella who could enter his office anytime she wanted. He never imagined anyone would pretend not to notice.
“Punish you by taking me to a play,” she said.
“Deal.” Frederick grabbed his suit jacket, and they left, holding hands tightly.
They had dinner at the mall first, then headed to the theater. Frederick picked up the tickets, glanced at the title, and asked instinctively, “Tess, is this a horror play?”
“Yep. You scared?”
“Do you think I’d be scared?”
“Aww, I was hoping you’d cuddle up to me if you were scared,” she pouted.
Frederick fell silent. Is this the wrong script?
Still, he didn’t mind. He’d pretend to be scared. Cuddling up to his girlfriend might not fit his image, but he loved it. No one they knew was there–he’d fulfill her little wish.
“Tess, don’t tell anyone, but I’m a little scared,” he whispered.
His girlfriend seemed to have a protective streak from her job, and he wanted to let her satisfy it. He, the great young master of the Shaw family, had become so “weak” in love. And he absolutely loved it.
“I’ll protect you,” Tess said proudly.
“Don’t laugh at me then.”
“I won’t.”
Frederick and Tess took their seats. Two rows behind them, Bruce and Sylvie smiled excitedly.
“Honey, our son takes after you–taking his girlfriend to a horror play,” Sylvie whispered.
“You weren’t scared back then, either. But you still cuddled up to me,” Bruce teased.
Sylvie glared at him and pinched his arm softly. “That was to make you happy,” she hissed.
