Stella opened the image. Nicole looked older here than in the student ID. More grown.

She needed to visit White Pit Village soon. Talk to the people who’d been there.

“Stella. Spill. How far have you two gone?”

Iris leaned in, eyes sparkling.

“There’s nothing to spill.”

“Okay, fine. Do you like him?”

“Don’t you have a schedule?”

Iris glanced over her shoulder. Her manager was walking toward them. Her face fell.

“I came here for gossip and ended up being the one handing it out.”

Stella said, “Sometimes I think about kissing him. But I stop myself.”

Iris‘ eyes went wide. Whatever disappointment she’d felt about being dragged away vanished completely. Replaced by pure, unholy curiosity.

Her manager reached them and physically pulled her away.

Stella stood. Paid the bill. Turned around- And found Gideon standing there. Frozen. Staring.

Stella froze too.
