Chapter 73 Gideon’s Crucial Intelligence
Elias‘ dark expression vanished, replaced by something like sunrise breaking through clouds.
“Tell me everything.”
Gideon spilled the details. By the end, Elias was grinning like an idiot.
He grabbed his keys and was out the door.
He was going to make sure Stella’s wish came true.

County Jail.
Stella’s gaze was ice. Her grip on the documents tightened.
“Miss Shaw. You can go in now.”
She nodded and stepped through the door.
The moment she appeared, the ringleaders from White Pit Village flinched. Their eyes went wide with fear.

They all knew who’d put them here. Who’d made sure they landed in Azure Peak City’s worst facility.
“Do you know this person?”
Stella didn’t waste time.
She placed a photo on the table–Nicole, holding a trophy, fresh from winning a piano competition.
The men hunched their shoulders. Refused to look up. “N–no. Don’t know her.”
Stella slid out more photos. “These?”
“Don’t know them.”
A cold smile crossed her lips. “Your eyes on the top of your heads? Or do you think holding out will get you lighter sentences?”
The guards forced their heads up. Made them look.
“Seen her?”
Stella watched their reactions carefully.
Lloyd–the one who’d once pretended to be security–flinched. His eyes darted away.
The guards held him back separately.

“I don’t know anything.
“Please. I don’t know anything. Let me go.
“It wasn’t me.”
Lloyd clasped his hands together like he was praying. Started to sink to his knees.
“Was she the one Derek trafficked? Luna?”
Lloyd stumbled. Fell back on his ass. Waved his hands frantically. “N–no. Not her.”
He wouldn’t look at her. Wouldn’t look at the photo.
Stella’s eyes narrowed. Enough for now.
“Thank you for your help.”
She nodded to the guards and headed to the separate room where Derek waited.
“Stella.”
Derek’s voice dripped venom. His eyes promised murder.
“I’m your father. You’re not worried about people calling you unfilial? Your reputation?”
Stella laughed coldly. “Father. Do you even believe that?”

Derek’s pupils contracted. “You–denying your own father? Not afraid of lightning striking you down?”
“I’m not your child.”
Derek went pale.
He’d suspected. But hearing it confirmed made him feel like a fool.
He should have killed her when he had the chance.
“The grace of raising you-”
“You’ve got some nerve.”
Stella cut him off. Pulled out Nicole’s photo. “Look familiar?”
Derek stepped back. Terror flickered across his face.
“You destroyed this face with your own hands. Forgotten already?”
She stepped forward. He stepped back.
“It wasn’t me.”
“You trafficked her. Locked her up. Beat her. Assaulted her. And finally, you killed her.

“Then you and Lloyd covered it up. Hid the body.”
“No. That’s a lie.”
Derek’s back hit the wall. Nowhere left to go.
“It wasn’t me.”
“It was you. You destroyed her life. You took her as your wife, and you murdered her. If you’re not guilty, why can’t you look at my mother’s photo?”
“I didn’t! I took her in. Gave her shelter when she had nowhere to go. I didn’t kill anyone. You saw–you were there. I wasn’t there when she died.”
Derek’s eyes bulged. Veins stood out on his forehead. His whole body shook.
“Her face–she did that herself. Hit a rock. Yeah. Hit a rock. Not me.”
“Bang.”
