You Are Mine Little Sister (by Syra Tucker) novel Chapter 103

"Grayson," Veronica took over. "If it's protocols you're begging for, I promise you, you don't want that door opened. If we follow the rules, you'll be making your statements from a bench behind bars."

He shrugged, nonchalantly. "Then I suppose you'll need something stronger than empty threats. Solid evidence. Witnesses, maybe?"

My jaw dropped. No. No way.

The son of a bitch!

"If I ever decide to see you rot for what you did, I'll crawl through hell and drag you there myself. So don't test how far I'll go." My voice thundered louder than I expected, but I didn't regret it.

"I'm done here. This is the last time I'll ever breathe the recycled air of this goddamn building. And if you think you've got the balls to sue me for breach of contract, go ahead. Let's see who wins."

The smug light in his eyes dimmed.

I turned for the door, my pulse drumming like war.

"You won't be paid for last month, Zerali."

I stopped. A dry laugh scraped from my throat as I turned to him slowly.

He was really throwing that card?

"Keep it." I stared him dead in the eyes. "Use it to buy yourself some dignity. Lord knows you need it."

I continued to the door.

Behind me, I heard Veronica leave some parting words.

"If I were you, I'd cut off my dick. Because the next girl you mess with might not be this merciful."

.....

You know that feeling like relief and grief had been thrown in a blender and poured straight into your veins? That was what I felt as I sank into the car seat.

I'd done it. I walked away from Fable and Fabric.

While I felt safe from Grayson, a part of me was still wounded about leaving everything I worked for.

I'd never get to finish Vlyrissa's dress myself. I had really high hopes about seeing someone like her wear something I made. How unfortunate that all my hopes were crumbled to dust.

Veronica broke the silence as I pulled out onto the road.

"You'll land somewhere better, Rali. There are loads of designer houses out there. All they need is one glance at your work and boom—you're in."

I rolled my eyes, blinking away the sting of unshed tears. She made it sound easy. I remembered how brutal it was to even get noticed by Fable and Fabric. Connections ruled this industry.

"Besides, didn't you say Void offered to help you start up your label or something?"

I shot her a dry glare. "Don't be ridiculous, Nica. I'm not about to take that kind of money from someone like him."

"Oh, please. This guy's practically begging you to use his money. You could become your own boss rather than scouting for another."

I shook my head. The thought was tempting but too dangerous. Accepting help from Void meant letting him thread his name into every lining of my life. And he already occupied more space than I'd like to admit.

Owning my own label? Sure. One day. But I wasn't ready to let a man like him have that kind of power.

Veronica kept me entertained during the drive to the house. She was practically vibrating with excitement over the latest man she was screwing.
