You Are Mine Little Sister (by Syra Tucker) novel Chapter 81

RALI

I woke up to find myself alone in bed, the duvet drawn up to my jaw.

Please tell me my conversation with Void was a dream because I didn't want to believe I actually fell asleep in his arms!

What the hell?

It was dark outside. I checked the time and it was already seven-thirteen p.m.

Shit.

I told that manipulative bastard I needed to grab stuff from my house.

I had missed calls from Veronica and Ruby. No doubt he must've silenced my phone.

Good Christ!

I yanked the duvet off and stormed out of the room, padding downstairs.

"Yes. Everything. Get it done," I heard a familiar voice coming from the living room.

On the couch was Miles, his arm flung over the rest with a phone to his ear. Behind him stood Eric, thumbing away at his own phone.

Eric was the one closest to the steps and his eyes lit up when he noticed ms.

"If it isn't Ms. Beauty," he tucked his phone into his back pocket. "Had I known I'd be blessed with your presence tonight, I'd have brought flowers to match your eyes."

Miles didn't even glance at me. "Her eyes might be pretty, but there's nothing good about green flowers."

"You wouldn't know beauty if it walked over and smacked you in the head, Miles. I'm damn sure you can't even spell the word." Eric turned to me with his signature smile that revealed his dimple.

"Hi," I mumbled. As much as they sounded nice, I couldn't help but imagine them being as cruel as Void.

"I'm um... I'm looking for—"

"The man whose ribs you were made from?" Eric pointed at the office. "He's right there."

I rolled my eyes. I was about heading in that direction when I caught someone at the door.

Katya. The tough pretty lady.

She stood at the doorway, dressed in her trademark cargo slacks and a flair-filled cropped shirt. Her hair was up in a tight ponytail that dangled past her neck. Yeah, she had really long hair.

I still didn't know what she and Void had possibly done in his office last night.

Her eyes zeroed in on me, her arms crossed over her chest.

I coated my gaze with a twist of irritation before I turned away, going into Void's office.

He was busy on a computer.

"You're up," he barely glanced at me before returning his gaze to his system.

I tried to make sense of what I found on the screen. It was a mess of codes and strings with a picture of a man in the middle of it all. What was he even doing?

"Can I go now? Home."

"Yeah. Take Katya with you."

Wait, what?

It sounded like he'd just told me to paint the Mona Lisa with a crayon.

"I don't understand. What am I doing with Katya?"

"She'll take you in her car, so when you get there, you'll return in yours."

Then she opened her mouth.

"So, you finally moving in with him." It wasn't a question.

I turned to her, catching the tattoo of a dagger at the base of her neck. Seemed fitting.

"Does it surprise you?" I tried to keep my voice calm as I returned my gaze to the windscreen.

"Nah, kind of saw it coming. It's always the girls who play hard to get that end up the easiest to leash."

Her words hit a raw spot. What the hell!?

"I didn't have a choice, okay!? You should've noticed."

"Please," she scoffed. She still managed to keep her cool somehow, speaking as if it were just a normal chat.

Her hands controlled the steering with ease. "You're just thankful the boss doesn't give you a choice. If we're being honest, we both know a man like Void is impossible to resist."

Oh. "I see. How have you been resisting him, then?"

She looked away from the road for the first time, cocking a brow at me. "Who said I have?"

Four words, yet they turned into bee stings.

Words evaded me as I grappled with composure. It took me a while longer to clear the lump in my throat and swallowed normally.

"So..." Keep it together, Rali. "You and Void have been intimate?"

She chuckled. "We just do it to burn steam. Helps with our job sometimes."

I could've sworn I stopped breathing. Every inch of my pride shriveled. I couldn't even swallow without scraping the inside of my throat.

She hadn't resisted him. Void had been sleeping with her. He lied to me.
