You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 818

“I figured you wouldn’t care about that sort of gossip.”

“Still, if you ask me, he’s a rising star. Marrying Bella just feels like he’s settling.”

What did Bella really have to offer him?

Looks? She wasn’t exactly a showstopper.

Money? He probably had more than she did.

Connections? Was that it?

“What’s Bella’s background, anyway?”

“Her mom’s last name is Elkins,” Patricia said, keeping it short.

Elkins. That name was hard to miss. Everyone knew the Elkins family was one of the top eight in Golden Bay.

But from what Patricia remembered, Bella’s mom wasn’t from the main line. She was just part of a side branch, and honestly, she didn’t seem particularly cherished. If she had been, there’s no way they would’ve let her marry so far from Golden Bay. Everyone knew that in wealthy families, the favorite kids were always kept close.

With towels wrapped around their hair, they sat up and made their way to the main lounge.

Places like this always took privacy seriously. Sometimes it was screens, sometimes private rooms. Patricia and Chelsea were in the open area, a wall behind them and a peony-patterned screen on one side. A stylist was working a conditioning mask through their hair.

“Even if that’s the case, what can he really gain from marrying her?”

“Family ties are messy. If you look closer, maybe Bella’s using him too, just trying to get her voice back in the family.”

Chelsea let out a sigh. “I don’t get it. I really don’t.”

“But my professor told me our latest project is for Pacific Capital.”

Patricia got it.

She was just about to say something else when she noticed someone hurrying over.

Wendy was practically rushing, her heels clicking out of rhythm as she nearly tripped. She burst into the room and stared straight at Patricia, wanting to say something, but at a complete loss for words.

Patricia looked her up and down, then spoke, her voice tinged with annoyance. “Wendy, are you following me?”

“No…”

Wendy’s plan had been to find Patricia. She’d just pulled up to the Martin Group building when she saw Patricia getting into a car. She’d tailed the business van all the way here, but by the time she parked, Patricia had already disappeared. She had to slip some cash to the security guard just to find out which shop Patricia had gone into.

She’d gone to all this trouble to track her down, but now that she was finally here… she just couldn’t find the words.
