You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 910

When Hector arrived at the hospital in the back of an ambulance, he was soaked in blood. The emergency room was a blur of doctors and nurses moving in and out, working quickly to treat his wounds. As soon as they cut open his shirt, the bruises and clear marks from shoes all over his torso made everyone stop for a second. The doctor just stared, speechless. Lately, the news had been full of stories about some rich guy in Riverdale who had abused and killed women. The scene right here looked almost identical.

A young nurse, clearly disturbed by what she saw, gently tugged at the senior doctor’s sleeve. “Doctor, should we call the police?”

The doctor glared at her. “We got the standby call before he even got here. Do you think he’s some regular person? Mind your own business.”

The nurse froze, not sure what to say, but the head nurse quickly whisked her away. It was one of those days that left everyone on edge.

Oliver hurried through the crowd and reached the hospital room just as Lincoln was finishing a phone call. Lincoln saw Oliver, hung up right away, and stepped forward.

“Mr. Padilla, Mr. McKee is…”

“How is he?” Oliver asked, not wasting any time.

“The doctor said…”

Oliver cut him off, “Is he going to be disabled?”

Lincoln hesitated, then shook his head. “No.”

Oliver finally let out a long breath, his whole body relaxing. He pushed his suit jacket aside, put his hands on his hips, and looked down for a second to steady himself. Then he waved his hand at Lincoln. “Go find out what the doctor says he can eat. Bring him something.”

“If I ran, that’d basically be admitting I slept with Chelsea and didn’t want to deal with it.”

“Then deal with it!” Oliver shot back.

Hector glared at him. “Who says I don’t want to?”

Oliver was caught off guard for a second. If there was one thing he was good at, it was reading people. He’d known Hector for years. Hector wasn’t a jerk, not even close. If things with Chelsea had gotten this messy, it had to be either pride getting in the way, or he just hadn’t figured out what he really wanted.

“I get it. You want to step up, but you just can’t swallow your pride. What’s the plan? Wait for Chelsea to ask you for help? Or are you hoping for a shotgun wedding so it looks like you had no choice, that you’re not the one who actually wanted to get married?”
