Chapter 20 

The snakelet was scared and couldn’t sleep well. He finally made it to the next day. 

Daphne had said she would come see him, but he didn’t know when. He was afraid he would miss her if he fell asleep, so he forced himself to stay awake. 

He waited and waited, all the way until the sun was almost setting, but Daphne still hadn’t come. 

Meanwhile, Daphne was teasing the black puppy using a cat treat.. 

“Luc,come bere, I have something yummy for you.” 

No matter how much Daphne tried to tempt him, Lucien wouldn’t come over. Sometimes, she even saw him frowning, which made her think he seemed almost 

human. 

Emma came over to remind her she needed to visit the makelet 

“Ms. Miller, you asked me to remind you. I’ve already done it a few times, but you keep putting it off. Do you dislike your own child?” 

“Do I dislike him?” Daphne considered it. Even Lucien looked over at her. 

“This is the child of my most admired Herkoen. You’d better not dislike him, nr 1’ll eat you in the middle of the night,” Lucien thought. 

It wasn’t true for her to say she disliked him. After all, she carried him for a month and then gave birth to him, 

If he had been a cat or a dog, maybe it would be fine, but he happened to be a snake. She just couldn’t get over it. The sight of a snake made her whole body tremble. 

“Oh, I’ll go in a bit,” she said. 

“Ms. Miller, you really should go soon. The snakedet already has his own thoughts. If you don’t visit him, he’ll think you dislike him. It’ll be tough to get along after

Daphne was just about to stand up and gather her things to check on the snakelet when Lucien suddenly started rubbing against her hand

He was given the task of bringing back the snakelets. No one had said anything about bringing back Daphne. That meant Helen and Richard probably didn’t like her, so it didn’t matter much whether she lived or died. 

Meanwhile, the snakelet waited until it was dark, but Daphne still didn’t come. He kept telling himself she must have been held up by something

He just wanted to hide somewhere. Everything around him smelled like an eagle, and every breath made him feel atraid.

Since the office was soundproofed, the soldiers outside didn’t hear such a small sound. The snakelet piled open a window and left.

Herkoen impatiently placed his hand on the child. The next second, his face hit up in excitement.
