In Jonathan’s first life, he was nothing but a pawn—made to believe he was something more. But in this life, he refused to be the pawn. Not even a make-believe knight.
He wanted to be king.
So when he was "gifted" the power to be born with his memories from his first life, he swore never to repeat the same mistakes, nor believe the same promises he once clung to.
He wouldn’t allow the fake Naylani Pierson or Nathalie Zorken to control his life again. Because in his first life, he believed Naylani was his mother. They made him think he would sit at the head of the Pierson Family in exchange for supporting Nathalie.
This time, the Pierson Family wasn’t just his goal.
Why choose the Pierson Family when the Zorken Family was far more terrifying—and powerful? Once he got the code and mobilized the Zorken military forces, he could squash the Piersons if he felt like it.
"Haha..." Jonathan chuckled, but quickly controlled it, pressing a hand against his wound. "Those idiots..."
His mouth curved into a wicked smirk, his eyes glinting. "I knew Dean would bite on the information—haha."
Did Dean really think Jonathan left all those hints out of carelessness?
Jonathan had always known Dean was stalking him. He knew about Dean—and his deep-rooted prejudice against illegitimate children. That’s exactly why Jonathan rigged the DNA test to make himself Enzo Pierson’s son.
After all, if he were just William’s son, Dean wouldn’t care. He’d still hate him, but not obsess over him.
"Heh..." he scoffed at the thought. "Stupid."
Though some of Penny and Zoren’s decisions were unexpected, like Atlas joining the Pierson Corporation, it wasn’t unmanageable. Jonathan simply needed to be careful around Atlas. That was why he left no breadcrumbs for the man. Atlas would’ve caught on in an instant if he did.
But Dean? Dean was perfect. If anything happened to Jonathan, Penny and Zoren would have no choice but to look into it, and Jonathan knew they’d eventually turn to Dean.
And Dean led them exactly where Jonathan wanted them to go.
Why?
Because once everything was revealed, the code would inevitably come to the surface. Jonathan trusted Zoren to bring it out. That guy had managed to obtain the code in their first life. He’d done it once—he’d do it again.
"Haha—ah," Jonathan winced as his laughter triggered pain in his side.
At that moment, someone approached the bed.
"I heard from Shawn. They’re currently in pursuit," the man reported.
"Heh," Jonathan smirked. "Let them. Our guy will know what to do. We expected this."
His eyes gleamed as they shifted toward the man beside him—a lean figure in a suit, one eye covered.
"As long as our men are waiting for them at the rendezvous point, everything will be fine," Jonathan said with a shrug. "Besides, I don’t need stupid Shawn or Penelope Bennet to live much longer. As long as I get the code, that’s all that matters."
"And the Zorkens...?"
"Don’t bother with them either," Jonathan said with a dismissive wave. "I’m done with them. Once I have the code, that old hag’s going to die. I’ll kill her myself."
A glint of fury flickered in his eyes—an anger he’d carried for an entire lifetime. This time, he wouldn’t end up like he did before.
Jonathan had a list. People who contributed to his downfall.
Finn—a friend who betrayed him.
Nina—that ungrateful woman who didn’t know her place and killed him in the end.
Zoren—far too much trouble in this world.
