At the same time...
Zoren pulled out his phone, and when he finally got a proper signal, several notifications popped up on the screen. Most of them were missed calls. He only checked because Atlas had pulled out his phone and told him someone was trying to call him.
Neither Atlas nor Zoren needed their phones right now, as their men were actively coordinating with Mint and the rescue team. If there was any new information, they would still be informed.
"First Brother," Zoren spoke through the microphone, holding his phone. "Is this the number that tried to call you?"
Atlas turned to him, checking the numerous missed calls before focusing on the one that had called him once.
"Seems like it," he said, eyeing the unknown number. "Is it possible it’s her abductors?"
Zoren also scanned the missed calls. Unlike Atlas, who had only one, Zoren had around six.
"Who knows?" he replied, then immediately called the number back. However, when he did, all he heard was the continuous beep. "Can’t reach it now."
Atlas quietly did the same, but just like Zoren, it didn’t even ring. Both men went silent, half wondering about the mysterious phone number while part of them also thought about Penny’s safety. A sense of dread began to creep across every fiber of their bodies.
They simply didn’t want to let it affect them for now.
Not now.
They kept telling themselves that Penny wouldn’t fall for such a cheap trick. That she had a plan, and that she wasn’t hurt. After all, if they stopped thinking logically and just took everything at face value, neither of them could probably sit still.
Zoren pinched the bridge of his nose and stretched his neck. ’She’s going to be fine,’ he told himself again as he felt his resolve start to break.
’She’s fine, she’s fine. She’s going to be fine.’
His quiet actions made Atlas turn to him. Atlas was already worried about his sister, but for sure, Zoren’s worry for her was ten times stronger. She wasn’t just his wife, after all. Penny was Zoren’s entire world – his entire universe. If something happened to her, they might as well have killed the man.
"Zoren," Atlas called, watching Zoren peek at him with one eye. "Your wife... she’s going to be fine. Hugo said she looks unharmed, even when she’s unconscious. That means she’s fine. If anything, I’m more concerned about the fact that she’s suddenly unconscious."
Zoren arched an eyebrow while Atlas leaned back.
"That time we were on the island, we found Penny unconscious too," Atlas said. "And when she woke up, it was that Penny we all know. When she accidentally drank some alcohol, she quickly regained consciousness as well."
He paused. "That time she got hit in the head and fell unconscious, it only took her a minute or so to regain consciousness, and her alter ego took over."
There were many instances where Penny was knocked out or passed out, only to wake up quickly.
"Unless the drug injected into her is potent, I don’t think she’s going to stay down for long," he said, even though Atlas was just as worried about his sister. Despite those worries, and the lingering doubts in his argument, he wanted to reassure Zoren psychologically.
He nodded at his brother-in-law reassuringly. "She’s Penny, and I don’t think this marriage would have lasted this long if there wasn’t something about her that made you so drawn to her."
