Yanny had lost sight and ended up parting ways with Shayne when they reached the end of the mall.
Since Shayne was throwing a fit, he left in a hurry. It did not take long for Yanny to lose sight of him in the mall while pushing the shopping cart around.
Yanny was puzzled as to what exactly she had said to have offended Shayne so much.
He truly was a petty and arrogant man.
When Yanny arrived at the toy department, she was still looking for Shayne in the enormous mall.
However, Shayne was nowhere to be found.
The middle-aged sales lady thought Yanny wanted to buy some toys, so she said, "Are you buying a toy for a child, miss? We'll be discounting five hundred bucks off for every two thousand bucks purchase of toys today."
As Yanny stared at the intricate and beautiful-looking Barbie dolls, she was quite tempted to buy one.
However, it seemed there were plenty of things in life she never had as a child but when she finally had the ability to obtain it after becoming much older, it no longer felt the same anymore.
She was zoning out while staring at the shelf stocked full of Barbie dolls. However, a firm chest was suddenly pressed against her back before a deep and manly voice could be heard echoing next to her ear, "You want it?"
Yanny was stunned for a second before she started to shake her head as she said, "It's expensive, and besides… It's not like I'll actually play with it after buying it anyway. I'm not a three-year-old child anymore."
While pushing the shopping cart around, Yanny said, "Let's go pay for everything now."
She then wheeled the shopping cart toward the checkout counter.
However, Shayne was not behind her when she arrived at the checkout counter.
She raised her brows and wanted to return to look for him. However, all she could see in the crowd of people was a tall and slender-looking male figure pushing a cart full of Barbie dolls out from a corner.
It felt like a ray of light had just opened up a whole new world for her.
The shopping cart was stacked to the brim with Barbie dolls.
Yanny was completely stunned as she stood there completely frozen. It seemed as if Shyane with his cart filled with Barbie dolls was the only person present at the moment, everything around her completely fading away into non-existence.
Only he and the cart full of Barbie dolls felt extra real to her.
She vividly remembered that Winson refused to buy her a Barbie that only cost five hundred bucks when she was little. Winson even told her it was expensive. However, Cara received one that cost more than a thousand bucks the following day and was even showing it off to her.
She wondered if she was unworthy to have one back then.
Painful, bitter tears rolled off her eyes.
When Shayne finally approached her with the cart filled to the brim with Barbie dolls, he spoke in a carefree manner, "Just get it if you like them. Your eyes were literally glued to them and yet you tell me you don't want them? Do all women have the tendency of saying the opposite of what they actually mean or feel?"
Yanny was crying.
She suddenly lunged forward and hugged Shayne, burying her face into his arms.
Shayne was stunned and just as he was about to look at her, all he could hear was the woman in his arms telling him in a soft tone, "Don't look at me, just let me hug you for a while."
She actually dared to order him around.
However, Shayne raised his arms and finally decided to gently pat her back.
Although he had no idea why she was crying, he could somehow guess that the backstory behind the Barbie dolls seemed quite heavy.
Shayne decided to play along and not probe her about it.
After they paid for everything in the mall and entered the car, Yanny suddenly said while she sat shotgun, "I… I don't feel like going home now. Is that okay?"
Shayne raised his brows and teased, "So you want to stay in a hotel room with me instead?"
Yanny was speechless.
It seemed she was wrong about him when she thought that he was quite unreliable earlier.
Although Shayne was teasing her, he was not actually that heartless. Even though Yanny never told him any specific location, Shayne knew exactly where to take her.
The riverbank on a winter's night in North City would glimmer brightly from the reflection of the countless stars overhead. The river’s surface felt warm as the lights flickered in the shroud of darkness.
The night was beautiful indeed.
While Yanny leaned against the riverbank’s railings while the cool breeze blew at her, she spoke softly, "It’ll be a little daunting to look at so many Barbie dolls at home."
Shayne glared at her as he said, "Weren't you crying from being so touched earlier?"
Yanny was speechless.
No, she did not. It was not her and he was mistaken.
However, she admitted it when she looked at Shayne's deep and intense gaze.
'Fine, it was me.'
"I'll just keep one and we can donate the rest to other poor children out there."
