It seemed as if her mind had been violently struck by a sudden wave of lightning.
This meant that Heaton had long since seen through her facade. So keeping her by his side was nothing more than to get her to drop her guard, right? Was allowing her to steal the chip his way of counterattacking?
Upon staring at Verian’s frantic expression, Yanni stood up and walked to her side. He lowered his head and spoke next to her ear, “Verian, you should be clear by now that you can never capture Heaton’s heart. His guard is kept way too high and even though…you’re carrying his child, he’s still able to use your child to trap you, to scheme against you.”
Yanni’s gaze was focused on Verian’s tiny, flat belly.
Verian frowned as she instinctively reached out and covered her tiny belly, “You, how are you so certain that I’m pregnant?”
“We’re in an alliance. There’s no need for you to lie about these things to me. I will never bring you harm.”
Verian’s fingers gradually sank into her palms, while her tiny face was extremely pale and her voice sounded slightly weak. “Since the chip is a fake, so what now?’
“Didn’t you mention you’ll be leaving after the whole ordeal? What’s the matter, change of heart?”
She bit her lips and said, “I didn’t expect the whole thing to be like this…”
“So, what you mean is that you’ll be continuing to work together with me?”
Back then, she felt extremely guilty for lying to Heaton all this time. Now however, she was not so different to Heaton after all. No one was more ruthless than the other. Since the whole situation had progressed to such an extent, what was even left for her to feel guilty about anyway?
She took a deep breath and said, “Since Heaton knows about my purpose now, I can no longer stay by his side. What can I even do now?”
Yanni stared intently at her belly. He suddenly cracked an extremely sinister and cold grin. Word by word, he said, “The truth is, as long as you abort the child in your belly, it’ll be enough to mess Heaton up.”
Verian’s pupils contracted violently as the color on her face immediately faded away.
“Yanni Quain!”
“Could it be possible that you’re unwilling to part with this child? Or do you mean to say that you actually decided to give birth to this child? The blood that flows through his veins belongs to the Fudd family and happens to be your father’s murderer.”
The agonizing pain in Verian’s heart felt as if Yanni Quain had ripped open her flesh wound and poured salt onto it. It was so agonizingly painful that her entire body felt numb.
She let out a cold chuckle and said, “Didn’t you mention before that Heaton has never loved me? Since that’s the case, even though I abort the child from my belly, he would not care even the slightest!”
“He doesn’t love you, but the child in your belly is his blood. As vicious as a tiger is, it’ll never feed on its cub. Look at Little Jelly Bean, wasn’t she loved and spoiled to oblivion? From what I heard, his depression recovered a great deal in these three years due to Little Jelly Bean. Say, if you aborted this child, you might even be able to destroy his emotions and cause him to once again fall into a bottomless pit, right?”
The warmth in Verian’s body slowly faded as she raised her eyes and stared coldly at Yanni before gradually saying, “Yanni Quain, you’re too ruthless.”
“Would you dare say the thought of aborting the child has never crossed your mind? Verian, from how I see it, we’re both on the same page toward this whole ordeal!”
…
After Verian left Yanni’s office, all her strength seemingly drained out of her body as she held onto the wall while touching her tiny belly with another hand. Her tears began rolling out from the corner of her eyes.
When she first learned of this child’s existence, she had actually thought about aborting it. However, it was unsure of when exactly…did she feel like keeping the child securely in her belly.
Besides, it was still a human life. It was the second child she had with...Heaton Fudd.
…
When Verian took an afternoon nap, she was plagued by nightmares.
In the dream, Heaton was holding a knife toward her belly while his dark pearly eyes were bloodshot red, trying to murder the child. Verian begged him while crying her lungs out. However, he was completely unmoved by it as he thrust the sharp and shiny blade violently into her belly…
“No!”
Verian was startled awake. When she woke up, her forehead was completely covered with beads of sweat as she stared at the dimmed monitor, her heart seeming traumatized.
So it was only a dream…
