Heaton stopped joking as he said with a serious look on his face, “My second personality manifested itself once a while back.”
Wilson held onto his cigarette in between his fingers as his brows raised slightly. He said, “What happened?”
Heaton shook his head and said, “I’m not sure.”
“Does Verian know about this?”
“Not sure, but nothing happened when she spent a night with my second personality.”
Wilson took a puff of his cigarette and gradually exhaled. He said, “It doesn’t matter if your second personality manifested itself, I’m worried that it might become your main personality someday. We have to get to the root of the problem and completely unroot it. We’ll arrange for a reassessment on another day. However, I don’t recommend keeping this from Verian.”
Heaton replied calmly, “I’ll find a suitable time to tell her but not now.”
Verian was currently pregnant and if she knew about his ailment, she might worry and affect her overall health when taking care of her pregnancy.
…
When Heaton returned to the patient’s ward, the takeout Verian ordered had already arrived. She sat on the bed, propped up the foldable table, and was about to start eating. Upon noticing Heaton’s return, she said while squinting her eyes in delight, “You’re back. I’ve ordered two sets so let’s eat.”
She ordered duck meat wontons. They smelled good. When she had just opened the takeout box, it did not take long for the smell to completely engulf the patient’s ward.
Heaton walked over to her and sat down in front of her. Verian inched closer to him and took a whiff of the cigarette scent from his body. It was not too heavy nor too terrible to smell the light scent.
She was not disgusted by the cigarette scent from his body. However, she disliked it when Heaton smoked too much. When Grayson was still alive, he often smoked when he found his job too dull or stressful. His ashtray was completely filled from his chain smoking. The entire study would be filled with thick white clouds of smoke. Due to Grayson’s heavy smoking, his coughing fits were extremely harsh. Hence, Verian did not wish for Heaton to smoke too heavily and affect his health.
“Hurry up and eat, this is delicious. You must’ve never tried this before, right?”
Verian snapped the single-use chopsticks and handed them over to him along with a spoon.
When Heaton first entered the room, his eyes were completely fixated on her. His gaze was warm and deep. Upon realizing he was not accepting them, she instinctively raised her head and stared at him. Coincidentally, her gaze met his.
Her tiny face felt slightly warm.
“Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?”
After she finished speaking, she stretched out her hand and touched her face and the corners of her mouth. Heaton suddenly raised his hand and grabbed onto her tiny hand. He lowered his head and kissed the corner of her lips.
Since he had just smoked, she could taste a hint of cigarette from his breath as he kissed her. This sudden kiss caught her off guard and she did not know how to react.
“You, why’d you suddenly kiss me?”
Heaton stared intently at her as he gradually started to speak with his thin lips, “If someday, you realize that I’m no longer who I am, would you be afraid?”
All of Heaton’s confidence, his strengths, and even his self obligations. Although he had an ex-girlfriend or two in the past, they were all extremely terrified after coming to know of his split personality disorder and so, they left him. He was usually unaffected by all this. Perhaps, the so-called exes he had in the past were merely there to serve a purpose of deflecting his family’s matchmaking. Hence, little actual feelings were poured into them. However, when facing Verian, he was completely in love and unsure how he would even bring up his desperately hidden secret. He was even more clueless as to how exactly Verian would react after learning of his ailment.
He was excited to know how she would react but at the same time, terrified.
Heaton was responsible for himself. However, he had never thought that someday, he would feel guilty in front of someone.
Verian stared at him with her watery eyes. After staring for a brief moment, she suddenly started to burst out laughing. She said, “Heaton, you just wanna hear me flirt, right?”
Or else, why would he ask something so off-topic?
She actually did not realize that for a man so mature and serious, he too, would ask something so immature.
The edge of Heaton’s eyes twitched as he grabbed her to him. He pressed his thin lips beside her ear and asked in a deep voice, “Then, are you going to tell me or not?”
Verian was speechless.
Was he flirting with her right now?
Verian looked at his serious face as she was laughing in his embrace. She said, “Even if you somehow transformed into a beast, I’ll never be afraid of you or leave you.”
Her flirtatious statement made Heaton’s cold and dimmed look recover slightly. Verian reached out and nudged the corner of his mouth, casually offering her feedback, “However Heaton, whenever you’re mad at someone, it’s actually scary. Especially when you’re pouting your lips, forcing a bitter look on your face while not saying a word. Next time, could you smile more often to me and Little Jelly Bean?”
Heaton cracked a grin on his thin lips, “Like that?”
Heaton suddenly smiled seriously, making Verian tremble. She said, “Well, forget about it then. Just do what you think is right. If you suddenly smile, I would assume you have some sort of scheme in your head.”
Heaton was speechless.
The corner of Heaton’s mouth twitched.
Verian was eating the delicious wontons. She picked one up with a spoon and moved it to her mouth. The man suddenly grabbed onto her wrist and moved it closer to his mouth as he opened his mouth to eat it in front of her.
“You have yours, why’d you eat mine?”
Heaton scooped one up with his spoon from his bowl then brought it by her mouth. He said, “Here.”
Verian was speechless.
Were they feeding each other?
Verian’s heart felt sweet as she ate that wonton.
After Verian was done eating, she picked up her phone to look at her notifications. She noticed there was a text by Serene…
“Verian, thank you truly! The Hades Jarret allowed my leave! I am now on my way to the hotel!”
Verian was stunned as she looked toward the man who was busy with work on the side. Kush sent his laptop over in the morning, so he was currently absorbed at his computer screen and his phone was beside her.
She wanted to see if Heaton had said anything to Wilson.
She secretly picked the phone up, typed in his birthday for the password, opened up WeChat, and noticed his chat log with Wilson…
