Verian spent a full day in the hospital under observation. After she was determined to be completely fine, she was discharged.
Not long after Heaton headed out to his office the next morning, Serene sent a WeChat text.
“Verian, I’m in a bad mood. Go shopping with me today, would you?”
Verian knew she was in a bad mood because she had just broken up with Chainer. However, she felt a little curious as to why she was not required to go to work today.
“Don’t you need to go to work today?”
“Hades Jarret heavily swindled me last night and his mood was exceptionally good today. Hence, he mercifully granted me a day off to fix my poor post-breakup mood.”
Verian somehow found it funny. Was this Wilson’s way of expressing his love?
Since Verian felt extremely bored being cooped up at home alone, she agreed to meet up with Serene.
After arriving at the city, Serene held Verian by her hand and headed straight into the mall.
Serene felt Verian’s flat tiny belly and asked, “Verian, are you actually pregnant?”
“Yeah, I was also surprised when I found out.”
Serene curiously asked, “Verian, how did you meet Heaton?”
Judging from how cold he seemed, that man did not seem like someone to be trifled with. When she went to greet him yesterday, he did not even seem to care.
When they arrived at a dessert shop, Verian said, “Let’s head in for some food. We’ll chat while we eat.”
It was unsure if it was due to her pregnancy as she felt tired even though she had not walked for too long. Her belly felt empty and she was always craving something to eat.
They entered the dessert shop and ordered some layered mocha cake, durian delight, fresh herbal milk tea, and a pomelo drink… Verian then took a few pictures and sent them to Heaton. As soon as she placed her phone down, she received a WeChat text. It was extremely fast.
“Are you outside?”
Verian replied, “I’m hanging out with Serene.”
Serene picked up a small silver fork and started eating the layered cake. She noticed Verian smiling at herself while holding onto her phone. Judging from her look, she must have been texting Heaton.
“Did you forget that the lady sitting in front of you has just suffered a breakup! You’re flaunting your love even at this moment, you truly are ruthless!”
Verian placed her phone down and said, “Chainer is a f*ckboy. He’s the same type of man as Jensen from back then. So what if you’ve broken up? You deserve better, Serene.”
Serene pouted her tiny mouth and spoke while sighing. “But, where do I find my ‘much better’? That b*stard, Chainer... My eyes must’ve been shrouded by grease to have trusted him that much! Forget it, let’s not talk about that f*ckboy. I heard that the Mont family went bankrupt. Where exactly did you go all these years? I asked many classmates and none of them had any means of contacting you!”
By bringing that topic up, Verian felt slightly awful as she said, “That’s a long story. When the Mont family went bankrupt back then, I went to Jensen for help but was unwilling to help me. I felt helpless so I agreed to become a surrogate for someone. I didn’t expect that the person I would carry out a surrogate pregnancy for was actually Heaton…”
Verian told her everything that had happened all those years ago. Serene was so shocked, her mouth was wide opened. After digesting the information for a good long while, she finally understood the full timeline of things.
“So, you actually also have a three-year-old daughter with Heaton?!”
Serene realized her voice was a little too loud when she got excited. She immediately covered her mouth, inched closed, and spoke in a dampened tone, “No way, Verian. So you’re saying that you currently haven’t tied the knot with Heaton and already have a second child?”
Verian was a little flustered as she said, “Isn’t it insane? I feel like we’re moving a little too fast as well…”
Her heart wrenched, Serene said, “In comparison to what you’ve been through, my breakup is nothing. However, the silver lining seems to be how well Heaton treats you but Verian, I feel like the sooner you tie the knot with Heaton, the better it’ll be for you. Having a marriage certificate makes you feel more secure.”
Verian nodded. She knew Serene only wanted the best for her. She said, “Yeah, we agreed on going to the Civil Affairs Department on Friday.”
“Then, when are you guys planning on having your wedding? Verian, I absolutely want to be a bridesmaid!”
In regards to her wedding though… She actually did not plan on having one. On one hand, she had no relatives and if she held a wedding, she would have no one to help her collect her dowry or officiate her marriage. On the other hand, Heaton was a reputable man so his wedding might cause a storm in the entirety of North City.
Verian did not seem to care much about the kind of wedding she might have. She said, “I might not hold one, it’s too much trouble.”
Serene felt slightly bad. She said, “If you guys are planning on holding one in future, remember to make me your bridesmaid.”
“For sure.”
After they were done with their dessert, Serene and Verian headed up to the first floor to shop. Verian was captivated by a ring in the jewelry display stand on the walkway’s side.
She would be getting the marriage certificate with Heaton on Friday. Although they were not holding a wedding, should she buy him a men’s ring?
Perhaps it was due to how long she stared at the jewelry display stand that the sales lady politely asked with a smile, “What would both you ladies be looking for?”
Serene was drinking the bubble tea she had bought earlier. She said, “Verian, what do you want to buy?”
She was very poor at that time. So much so, she could barely afford bubble tea. She had no intention to buy jewelry since she could not afford it.
With a smile, the sales lady asked, “What are you looking for? Are you buying a gift for your boyfriend?”
Verian’s face blushed as she said, “Yeah, a man’s wedding ring.”
“Then, you’re buying it for your husband, right? These few designs are all men’s wedding rings. Take a look and see which one you like.”
